It's kind of fascinating how the DAREDEVIL title transformed somewhere along the way from Marvel's most light-hearted comic book to its grimmest and darkest.

I wouldn't go that far. It really wasn't written any differently then the other Marvel books at the time - which is part of the reason Daredevil was known for many years as a Spider-Man knock-off.

I've read a lot of the Marvel comics of that era. They're light-hearted, but none of them are quite as light-hearted as DAREDEVIL. He was basically Spider-Man without the angst.

I've read them too, and quite frankly, no Marvel comic was without angst in those days, and Daredevil was no exception.

Although granted, his villains were a lot goofier then Spider-Man's ( did you know, kids, that Leapfrog and Stiltman were originally Daredevil villains?!).

Yeah, I was overstating it, but DAREDEVIL had less of it. I maintain it was the most light-hearted superhero comic Marvel was putting out in those days. I can't imagine that goofy twin brother plot playing out over 17 issues in, say, FF or SPIDER-MAN.

The Murdock stuff is a red herring. That's really Peter Parker disguised as Matt disguised as Mike disguised as Daredevil, isn't it?

I loved the wackiness of Matt Murdock. I'm glad it didn't last, but for the time it was fun.

That is.... Some Silver Age Marvel stuff right there. Only Marvel would get so weird an convoluted by the soap opera dynamics of a superhero that he is forced to make up and masquerade as his own twin brother. I can't decide if that gimmick would have delighted me or worn on me to the point of distract had I been a reader back then.
And those glasses, who wears glasses like that? Who sells glasses like that? Did real, rational, thinking people actually wear glasses like that? I don't know, but I'm assuming the only reason Foggy and Karen didn't see through Daredevil's utterly preposterous plan is that they were too dazzled by those monstrosities to think straight.

They're blocky wraparound shades. It's surprising to see them on anyone in a book from the '60s, but there was a period of time in the 1980s where they were in style.
