I feel so bad for the Utopia X-men, consumed by an uncontrollable force, and now they look bad, and wrong. You just know every other character will bring this up when an argument happens.
Though thank God they got the Phoenix and not Wolverine.
Also, random, BUT I WANT OLD QUENTIN QUIRE BACK! I just finished Grant' run and he was brilliant there... nowadays his IQ has dropped and he's just annoying. Oh and I want a new Omega gang please!

Date: 2012-08-24 04:54 pm (UTC)I can connect your dots there and I can fanwank it to myself about how people change as they grow up but I just. Can't. convince myself. His character now feels like an understandable misreading of his character then.
Even if I were sure it was on purpose, it would still feel like an honest loss - nowQuentin is fun and bastardly and sassy and I like his fondness for shorts but he feels very much like a character who would be accomplishable under a different name. Morrison's quentin felt unique and raw and obnoxious in a way more alarmingly unreachable than this version; he was a finesse product.
I know this is something that every company-owned character fan has to deal with eventually but quentin's change of life has bummed me out more than average.

Date: 2012-08-24 11:02 pm (UTC)I DO recall that I thought he was almost right but not quite - I think the writing was good but the mannerisms were sort of pantomimed.
I guess it provides a crossover point, though. I'd like to see a sort of clone degeneration thing that explained the change from cold and sharp to blunt force.
