Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #14
Sep. 5th, 2012 07:05 pmUltimate Comics Spider-Man #14 features Miles Morales interacting with Peter Parker's supporting cast of Aunt May, Gwen and MJ. Ultimate Cap is also in this comic.

(Well said, Gwen.)
Besides Ultimate Gwen's best impression of 616-Kitty Pryde (maybe Peter told her about this moment during Spider-Men off-panel), we get some interesting interaction between Miles and Peter's old supporting cast.

Okay, I can see shipping MJ/Miles. (Also, Miles, you should be reading MJ's blog in a weird way.)

(Ultimate Gwen is so awesome.)
Ultimate Cap didn't want Miles to get involved because Peter died and Cap thinks it's all his fault and doesn't want another kid's death on his conscious but because he's Ultimate Cap, he has to act like the eagle from the Muppets and fart on people.
But we do get this moment after Ultimate Cap leaves.

(LOL at Gwen borrowing MJ's "tiger" line.)
Also, awesome Aunt May is awesome.

Date: 2012-09-06 03:40 am (UTC)We have seen young heroes before but most of them a) didn't have a choice(most X-men) b) have some psychological trauma that makes a normal life not an option (the Robins and Cassandra Cain) or c) think its cool to be a superhero and by the time any adult actually catches on its way to late to get them out of the life.

Date: 2012-09-06 03:50 am (UTC)He got the powers by accident and they're very similar to the original Spider-Man's powers, so he fell over backward into using the name. Miles's story so far isn't so much that he's driven to be a hero as that he's a good kid who'll help with a problem if he's right there when it happens, but he's also been subject to substantial manipulation by people in his life. Basically, Miles's story is that once you get powers, things will happen to you whether you seek it out or not.

Date: 2012-09-06 04:24 am (UTC)I'm sorry, but DAMN, this was good. Every time Ultimate Spider-man does something I think will suck, it rocks! Amazing!
WRONG PETER PARKER DIED.

Date: 2012-09-06 12:20 pm (UTC)Ask him what the letter on his costume doesn't stand for, for a start. Ultimate Captain America is written as an UGLY American, fairly often. Writers often confuse 'grew up in the 1930s' with 'is an ignorant jackass'. He spends a lot of time being a hypocrite, which apparently is how most writers seem to see people from the 1940s as being, I guess. He insults British soldiers he fights side-by-side with in Ultimate Captain America, apparently is scandalized by women wearing clothing that is too revealing or hearing swear words in movies and is often written as insulting towards a lot of other characters. Honestly, the parts that bug me the most is how a guy who chronologically was fighting side-by-side with the French and Brits a couple of years ago is now super dismissive of them (with the writers assuming that cursing was somehow rarer during the 1940s, that Cap had no trouble having pre-marital sex but is scandalized by others doing it and that he somehow resented all his allies during WWII).
He is written with good points (and honestly, other characters NOT being skeeved at incest is pretty odd in the Ultimate universe), but is often written as abrasive, haughty and often ultra-conservative. It all chalks up to him showing his ass A LOT, right up to his appearance at Peter's funeral.

Date: 2012-09-06 01:07 pm (UTC)Is Miles a science-y type? If not, he's going to be in trouble when that handful of web fluid cartridges run out...

Date: 2012-09-06 02:02 pm (UTC)Miles seems pretty smart but maybe not Peter level smart, he actually said as much about the web fluid cartridges running out at the end of this issue
