That's -- surprisingly good. And the characterizations don't suck either.

I was really worried that making Cpt. Cold initially about Revenge Revenge would go on, but this seems to fix that. Now if only Manapul can hit that sweet spot for Flash Villains that give them a bit of light-heartedness.

It is kind of nice seeing Captain Cold and Golden Glider together again. Their Blackest Night tie-in still tugs at my heartstrings.

What happened? I mean, both are clearly alive, so how could they have any major interaction during Blackest Night?

*cough*

Flash is one of the four titles I'm currently reading from DC and I really love it. It's not really pushing any boundaries, but it's just really, really competent in telling good stories. The characterization is all solid, the art is stellar, and it's actually sincere in telling it's stories, unlike a lot of the other DC books, that are trying way too hard to be "mature." Flash knows what it is and is great being just that. It doesn't get enough credit.

I can't help but wonder if Rule Two is a bit of a poke at Geoff Johns, since he introduced the idea of Mirror Master as a drug addict.

Doubt it, as Johns wrote the scene where Captain Cold beats Mirror Master's ass for doing drugs.

Ugh to the new Rogues. Very 90s "Younger, hipper now that they have powers!"

How does that change anything tactically?

From: [personal profile] kd_the_movie
Yeah im not feeling this.

1. The fact that the Pre-Nu52 Rogues looked older and used gadgets gave them an "old school" feel, but "old school" in a way that said that they were EXPERIENCED, which heightened their threat level to the Flash.

2. "The Score! No revenge! All ABOUT THE SCORE!!" does anyone else remember Capt. Cold exposing this much in his earlier iterations? Sheesh

Exactly!

I just love one panel of the only "classic" Rogues we'll ever get above... -sigh-

I would probably take the "No killing unless we have to" panel more seriously if he had simply iced the cops gun hands and their feet to the floor, or buried them up to their waist or something, but as it is, he's coated their mouth and noses meaning that if the frostbite doesn't get them, they'll suffocate long before the ice melts.

So if Flash hadn't shown up he'd have gone and broken the ice? That might have been a better thing to show.

Good thing there isn't any larger team that Flash might be a member of which might involve him being anything from offworld to being in another dimension for unspecified periods of time.

How often does that actually happen for such lengths that it interferes with a Justice League member's solo heroing?

I know my arguments are bad in real world logic, but I think they hold up under genre logic. :)

True

That being said, Heat Wave is also a very odd choice for a "no deaths" kind of a bad guy, since he's a pyromaniac who uses a ruddy flamethrower, hardly a precision weapon at the best of times.

Didn't he just like, well, ice them, then Heat Wave immediately melted the ice on a low setting (no flames)? I think that pretty much got them out of the game, but kept them alive.

That's what I understand from the art, anyway.

Not that I can see. He freezes the cops, whilst Heat Wave uses his flamethrower on the cop car.

It's Flash who releases the frozen cops, as they are surrounded by motion lines whilst the Flash's voice is overlaid on them being released.

I'm confused. Why is Cold using a gun at one point, then has ice powers? And why give him ice powers at all? His character is much cooler - no pun intended - with just a gun.

As he's wearing a different outfit when he's using the guns (it has sleeves for one thing), I'm assuming that's a flashback.
