616? We don't need no steekin' 616!
Jun. 2nd, 2009 11:16 pmHey guys! This is my first time sharing comics at the new S_D so I'm really excited! I thought I'd share a little bit of the Marvel Adventures Avengers. It may be marketed to kids, but it's got snark, it's got action and it's got some pretty good characterization and minimal angst, which is my kind of comic. I'd especially recommend it to those who aren't exactly thrilled with current 616!canon. I know I like it more.
Back-story: The Avengers get attacked by Baron Zemo, who takes them down and runs off with Cap. The Avengers aren't very happy about this, but there's nothing they can do right away, so they retreat and regroup.

And this is the reason why I really like the Marvel Adventures Avengers so much. They have personalities! In Storm's case, that means that she isn't just the regal African goddess; she's a leader who analyzes the Avengers' performance in battle and she's a teammate who's not afraid to joke around every now and then. The same sort of thoughtful characterization applies to the rest of the characters. Smart characters are smart, characters with leadership skills lead, and the banter's not half bad to boot.

Date: 2009-06-02 07:08 pm (UTC)I'm just glad that this T&A is relatively understated and anatomically correct. Woo, non-broken backs and torsos that might actually contain enough space to hold the necessary amount of internal organ-meats.

Date: 2009-06-04 08:48 am (UTC)As for having T&A at all, well, variety is the spice of life, and a nice mix of the sexual helps. It's nice that they put a little flavor right there. It's funny, it's sexy, it gives Storm a chance to both be witty and enticing. No one loses.
Plus, just think of the number of kids who will grow up lusting after white-haired African storm goddesses. I for one heartily encourage this.

I can't say why, but just him holding that icepack on his head here is totally charming to me.

Date: 2009-06-02 06:54 pm (UTC)Also, that's another of the things I really like about the MA!Avengers. There's a lot of Hulk, yes, but in the issues I've read so far, there's just as much consideration given to Banner as a scientist and as a person. I do enjoy it when geeky characters get their geek on, especially when it's characters like Banner or Peter Parker, who get to hero a lot, but don't necessarily get to show off their brains as much.
