Remember that... well, let's be kind and say "anatomically challenged" cover to Catwoman #0?
Yes, I thought you might... Well, it looks like someone listened....

But fret not lovers of improbably proportioned and positioned anatomy
You still have this sketch card from the "New 52" series

This is approaching the levels of optical illusion. Seriously Dinah, being able to stand like that is practically a superpower in and of itself!
But because I like you and have no wish to traumatise you, a few other sketch cards from the series
Damian, by Dustin Nguyen

And three by the delightful Andy Price
A "Why yes, I AM all that!" Aquaman
Dex Starr meets a Green Lantern a la Chuck Jones perhaps?

And a little Bat-sidekick booty, but not my usual target... enjoy! :)

Date: 2012-09-11 09:39 pm (UTC)The card reminds me of a time I tried to draw a parody of the ass n' boobs pose. A parody that apparently fails by virtue of not being exaggerated enough.

Dustin Nguyen... never seen him asa very good comic artist. Grown out of his style to be honest.
It's weird seeing Flamebirds costume as y'know, it just looks very silly, I love her though, don't really know why.

Date: 2012-09-12 02:51 pm (UTC)from what i read Guillem DID do a few of the less provacative sketches... he always does actually, and editorial ALWAYS chooses these, (or tells him to draw it like this)
her first costume i didn't like much. her current one is much better.

Date: 2012-09-11 10:34 pm (UTC)I don't trust it as an improvement at all. My eyes feel fobbed off; I think the original was just more obviously contorted because we're used to seeing heroines contorted but not circular.

we're used to seeing heroines contorted but not circular.
That's unsettling.

Whilst to each their own and all, do you mind if I ask in what way, because I'm really not seeing any redeeming feature to it?

Date: 2012-09-12 12:16 am (UTC)It's still a pretty silly pose, and it doesn't look at all like she's bursting through the cover, which totally throws the background concept out the window. But it does have the effect of highlighting just how terrible the original design was, so that's a plus.

Although I guess it's nice to see that Guillem March is an equal opportunity spine breaker since basically everyone on the cover, men, women, and aliens alike are in painful looking poses. I've gotta say, I feel massive pain whenever I look at Kyle on that cover, though. Ouch.

Date: 2012-09-12 05:01 am (UTC)As for the aliens on the cover, I'd assume that Saint Walker and Larfleeze could maybe be all bendy like that since they are kind of thin and gangly, but I highly doubt Arkillo and Atrocitus could bend that much. Though I am sadly not an expert on whatever kind of aliens all of them are, so who knows. lol.

Date: 2012-09-12 06:13 am (UTC)You basically want, with this kind of outfit, to be thinking, "What would Frank Quitely do?" (or Howard Chaykin, another master of actually making plausible sexy outfits)
What I'm saying is that in fact that first picture made her LESS sexy, and in fact kind of laughable. The second one, though no masterpiece, accomplishes the goal more elegantly.

Date: 2012-09-13 08:34 am (UTC)She's relatively not terrible for an Escher Girl... The boobs are too big, and there's no way to get them and the butt in those poses at the same time, but...at least her midsection can contain her organs, and the artist opted for a single impossible pose for her spine, rather than turning her into a full-on corkscrew (and only slightly centaurish).
