What a terrible mistake on Fox's part.

Well, apparently he consulted on Iron Man and Avengers, and I think his better recent runs were on books like Ultimate X-Men and Fantastic Four (well, the first year of it, at least)--so I think it could work.

Favreau invited a Marvel think tank on set to weigh in on the first Iron Man, which included Bendis, Millar, Fraction and Quesada. I don't think he had input on Avengers beyond the fact that Whedon said the first two volumes of Ultimates was his main inspiration for the movie.

Well, I think that Think Tank extended far beyond just Iron Man. I know I've heard Bendis talk about that in interviews with Word Balloon. Plus there's this:

I think the first is the people who had actual involvement, while the second is a list of those who had influence on the movie through their work - for example, Hitch and Millar's Ultimates, Don Heck for creating Black Widow and Iron Man, and the others there who wrote or arted seminal works featuring the characters.

"Special Thanks" in a movie credits are people who the filmmakers want to acknowledge for contributions outside of the production.

In this case, they're thanking Millar and Hitch for Ultimates and Bendis and Dell'otto for Secret War. The other names are creators of other specific storylines that Whedon took inspirations from.

The "Marvel Creative Commitee" are the people they actually consulted on during production.

nomadicwriter: Close-up of Doctor Doom's eye showing a tear welling up (Doom crying)

I know I'm looking forward to the Fox F4 reboot even more now that the guy who invented Reed's Civil War characterisation and gave us Doom bowing before the kewler badassier master who taught him everything is going to be advising them on how to get it right.

From: [personal profile] darkknightjrk
To be fair, Millar also did his brief run on Fantastic Four with Bryan Hitch, and that was almost completely removed from his characterization, and as I recall, Doom was kind of playing The Master to some extent (and I think it could have worked better were it not for the delays causing to get another writer involved)

From what I remember, the whole Master of Doom thing wasn't actually so bad, given.. Well, didn't it actually turn out to BE Doom?

The Master's "New Apprentice" turned out to be Doom, whom had survived being dropped in the distant past and spent millennia rebuilding himself and methodically planned his revenge.

Which I think a lot of us called in one way or another at the time. Or at the very least that leaving Doom to 'certain death' thousands of years in the past was just giving Doom thousands of years to come up with his vengeance.

I don't get it. Grant Morrison is pretty high up at DC, so ... ???

From: [personal profile] darkknightjrk
He's a big figure on the comics side, but I don't think he's really involved on the movie side of things (though there's clearly a Morrison influence on Man of Steel, since the line Jor-El gives in his trailer is almost note-for-note what he says in All-Star Superman #12).

But Fox is specifically not Marvel Studios, and DC doesn't even have a coherent movie side to begin with, so what on earth is this comparison supposed to be about??

I think that's kind-of the point--neither Fox or WB is on Marvel's level, but Fox is publicly showing off that they have, whether you like it or not, one of those franchises biggest writers in recent memory, on staff, whereas with Green Lantern, by the time DCE was set-up, everything was already in motion, and we don't know just how much Johns is making an impact with Man of Steel since I would assume Nolan is the big guy in charge there.

Except nobody save a small portion of the audience knows or gives a fuck that Millar will be consultant on the next sets of films. And Morrison hasn't really expressed any interest in being involved in DC's filmmaking efforts, has he? Either way, I think they missed the mark in terms of their choice of creators here. It'd be more accurate if they used Johns in place of Morrison.

Uhhh, yeah, I dunno, but I think it's commenting on the bitter Millar vs Morrison feud. It's showing that Millar is the winner of their long-time fight because he now works for Fox, whereas Morrison has been a DC figure for over a decade but is in no way involved with the Batman movies or the upcoming Superman movie.

But what a fucking stupid point. It's assuming that you're automatically more successful as a writer if you get some hotshot Hollywood deal.

Top comment on that page breaks my heart. Its sad to know people really do live with such troubles, and it makes me empathize with them, and feel shame for being the same species as the ones who act like that.

I lost it again this morning, when I read in papers that democratic government is working on a law to forbid "propagation of homosexuality".

Few days ago, I found out, that I'm gonna be an uncle. I even joked, what will my brother do, if the kid ever tells him he's gay. I'm kinda hoping he won't, if this is the world, where he will have to live in.

Congratulations! Let me assure you that unclehood is wonderful, all the perks, none of the responsibilities!

I would hope you'd never wish your nephew or niece to be anything other than the person they are. The world will never change if we all hide under the disguise of conformity.

If in doubt just send them a link to s_d when they reach the right age (We might be on Version 6.3 ubernet psynterface by then, but we'll hopefully still be around in some capacity and be as welcoming as ever

Thank you. But since my brother has hard time taking care of himself, I'm sure I'll end up doing all the hard work anyway :-)

I totally will. You guys are great (well, as far as I can judge people by how they express themselves on the internet). I'm glad there's a site, where I don't have to be afraid she/he will be judged by his/her character, not gender, sexuality, or race.

terror and accurate rendition of DC editorial, they have some BRILLIANT (if not mad) writers working for them... but they don't really let them do shit.

I really don't get Gutters. It doesn't tick me off or anything - I just don't get it. Are the comics supposed to be funny? They very rarely even make me smile, let alone laugh. Are they supposed to be insightful? Too often they come across as a guy who thinks he knows what the hell he's talking about but really doesn't have a clue.

Fair enough. It's not the desire to discuss that I don't understand but rather the appeal of the comics themselves.
