The Curious Case of Superboy and Superman's Armor

It seems that for whatever reasons, Superboy has started wearing Superman's kryptonian armor. Did the Man of Steel give to his clone as a gift? Or did Superboy steal it? Don't know, not sure I care yet.

Hmm.... Superboy and tentacles... not my first choice, but he carries the look well. :)

I rather like the idea of Superman giving him the armour perhaps to bolster his powers until he matures and manages to process sunlight fully. Superboy might well need it, Superman doesn't.

Hmm, that's possible--I mean, it is smart-armor, even if it looks and feels like cloth, and there have been plenty of times with Superboy where, in an effort of using his powers in one way, someone else sneak attacks him or does something that he can't block.

I also think there's a little bit of, "Hey, people seemed to really like the T-shirt and jeans look on Superman, let's bring it back for a little while."

I think the part that I'm really curious about is why Kon and Batman are going to ambush the Fortress. :O

Second on the list is why Rose is making out with Superboy, when in his book there was SO MUCH subtext between her and Caitlin Fairchild that even Harley and Ivy were telling them to get a room.

As for Bunker--ah, he still has Tim, he should be fine.

I would actually be pretty pumped if Clark gave Superboy that armor, I hate the way it looks. It would be perfectly fine on Superboy, since it very much looks like the costume of someone inspired by or affiliated with Superman, but on Big Blue himself, it continues to just look wrong. It's like having Santa without his hat, sure you know who it is, but the classic image has been ingrained in your memory since childhood that it looks fundamentally wrong.
Anyway, O'm guessing Supes hands it over to Superboy as some form of power stabilizer. As for the cover of number 16, I'm curious. I remember seeing those robot-things as servers in the flashback to Krypton from one of the early issues of Action Comics, so the story must be related to that. Perhaps some more Kryptonians escape the Phantom Zone, or maybe Clark gets possessed/goes on one of those trips where he stops thinking of himself as human.
