...so, they're going to be the new Brotherhood? Sort of?

Huh. That's...

...neat.

Against all expectations, Marvel is starting to put out comics I actually want to read again. (This, Hawkeye, the new Young Avengers.) After the way AvX played out, I thought I'd never want to pick up another Marvel book again, but now they've got a whole crop of cool looking stuff.

Dammnit, I was saving so much money...

That's pretty much how Maggie recruited Wanda and Pietro for the original Brotherhood.

Just sayin'.

To be fair, it *is* hard to keep someone in jail if Emma Frost, Magneto, and Illyana want them out.

The security measures may have been enough for Scott on his own. Maybe even plenty for a normal bust. But I can't think of what could stop that crew.

In the last AVX tie-in for New Avengers, we see Emma in cuffs being escorted to prison by Luke Cage and Daredevil.

As it is the prison is more of privately owned, which means they will lack something somewhere whether it be manpower or counter-measures to certain superpowered people. Not that the government/S.H.I.E.L.D. controlled prisons always keep their prisoners in.

Which why I think where they are holding Scott for that very reason. By letting his X-Men team breaking him out would damage Scott's profile and his team's profile. Plus it is good for anti-mutant propaganda.

Still it could be the government released him.

I grow more and more interested in this series, due to me wanting to see the reactions of the original 5 X-Men when they learn their fates. Also..seriously the most obvious thing to consider also is...well this is seriouslly going to affect the future. Question is, how?

Also one more thing...how did ANYONE not notice this? In the preview. Final panel on page 7..Cyclop's face...

I kinda like the idea of them being a more extreme mutant rights group. If that's where they're going with this. A new Brotherhood seems too obvious and they have that going in Uncanny X-Force at the moment, so really it'd be a New New Brotherhood.

But they could go interesting places with an extremist rights group that isn't out to kill all humans. Like the enviromentalists that are willing to camp out in trees for months on end in order to save some owls.

So Scott's notion of taking responsibility for his crimes is to break out of jail a few days later?

It's a minor gripe, but between that and Spider-Man's recent behavior, I think the word responsibility now means something different in the Marvel Universe than it does in our world.

HAAHAHAHA true.

Though it can be argued that the X doesn't stand for Xavier, that's a dead theory. It stands for the X gene, and he has been leading the team for quite a few, if not most of his years, so if anyone gets to do it - its him.

Of course didn't Xavier discover the X-gene and name it after himself?

From: [personal profile] theflames
Oh, did he? Perhaps, hell, most likely - still, doesn't make that gene his in anyway, it's something he discovered, he didn't create it, so the point still stands I guess. The X-gene has no moral alliance or loyalty to just him, it's something all mutants have, and is really the only thing they have in common.

So I guess Scott can throw up the cheeky gang sign if he wants.

Well the fact that he originally founded and named the team would be good merits on standing for Xavier. Also occasionally in older comics when Xavier was in charge they would state that the team was named after him.

Regardless, the team has a lot of history with him. The school which is a majority of the time their central base belongs to his family. So really even with him not there the team is still very much his team being the founder.

I remember quite a few times the X in X-men being described as standing for the X-gene. I know that was the case in older comics, it being named after him, but I think that's been something Marvel has now pulled away from.

The school's gone now isn't it? The new one has very little to do with him.

It'd explain why everyone carried on using the name as soon as they pushed Xavier out as a leader of the group. It doesn't have anything to do with him anymore, they are not Xavier's men.

God that be a weird group name.

it doesn't really matter, tho.

imagine if someone guilty of murdering a bloke named keith lambert was leaving a courtroom, saw all the cameras and gestured K and L with his hands.

you could argue that - little known fact! - the convict's beloved granny kathy lee had just died of, idk, emphysema two nights before and he meant to pay his respects.

it's still tacky.

it... still doesn't matter. even tho - do the MU citizens really make this differentiation? x in x-men for x-gene and not xavier? w/e, i don't care.

what is tackiness anyway in a great pile of character flaws? a pebble.

hahahahahhahah, that's really specific and out there.

And not the same thing at all.

Your comparison would make more sense as a comparison if the murderer was previously in a group that used the letters K and L as their signage, if they did, his finger signs would have a whole new layer of meaning.

Scott has just as much claim to the X-Men... 'brand' as Xavier does, he lived and breathed it, lead it, and protected it; he doesn't believe in Xavier, he believes in the X-gene, hence the wacky gang sign.

I don't think anyone in Universe would think of him making the X sign and thinking, 'he's totally shaming Xavier by specifically signing the first letter of his name!', though they'll certainly be thinking "He still thinks he's one of us?" - wether or not that's a fair question is a whole other story.
