Yeah, yeah, I know. Poor Captain America, but you cannot deny that the look on his face is hilarious.

Years of neglect and not polishing your shield will have this effect. You have been warned.

is it me or does shattering the unbreakable shield seem less dramatic these days

It did completely lose all impact for me in Fear Itself. It was meant to symbolise, like, the fall of the nation, that it had succumbed to absolute chaos and that the dream was dead, and yet it just felt like a poor man's take on the 'Darkseid gives the thumbs down' final page of Final Crisis #4, where he finally wins out over Turpin.

It has happened a few times.

One 'odd' thing is Wonder Woman's bracers were billed as unbreakable in the crisis-through-flashpoint era... and were actually never broken! Not once!

I've actually seen people argue that one of the reasons that Darkseid was nerfed in Superman/Batman was that his Omega Effect was deflected by Wonder Woman's bracers. I see that more as a high end showing for Wonder Woman than a low end showing for Darkseid.

Yea. The Omega effect is pretty unstoppable too- but you've got two 'uns' there.

Diana has also blocked Zeus's lightning, the pieces of the shattered god, Mageddon's beam, I think some of Chronus's attacks... they just don't quit.

Isn't the whole thing about the Omega Effect that the beams should have bent around any intervening object? I can see Diana's bracelets being able to withstand it in the post-Perez stories, it's being able to block them in the first place that's problematic.

Stuff has, iirc, been purposefully interposed before. It's not like she was there when they were first fired, she leapt in for the reason of blocking them.

Actually it was Rhodey and his crew who found it. Tony was nowhere in sight.

Was this Cap's original WW2 shield? I seem to remember Hyde trashing that at some point.

Actually, I think that was from the Under Siege arc. Cap was mortified, but hid it from the Masters of Evil, unlike the rather goofy response above.

Could be worst Cap..Just imagine if..

Of course, there's also the scene in the last issue of the original Secret Wars, where the shield gets broken by Beyondoom, and near the end Cap just sort of wishes it back together because they're on Magic Wishes Planet. Read your Ecclesiastes, kids, there's nothing new under the sun.

Since so many people are asking, this was the "Heroes Return" Cap, where he lost the shield in the middle of the ocean in #1. When they finally found it, that's the shape it was in.

Tony attempted to make a new one, but they couldn't get the balance of the shield right, so he attempted to go without it, but was attacked in a WW2 museum, where he picked up a replica of his WW2 triangle shield.

The triangle shield was destroyed during the "Live Kree or DIE!" crossover, at which point SHIELD gave him the hologram shield which he couldn't throw. He used that for a few issues until they discovered that all vibranium on Earth was about to explode, a result of the vibrations of Cap's destroyed shield or some nonsense.

Cap patched the shield and took it off to destroy it, where he was attacked by Klaw. The sound waves from Klaw reacted with the shield's vibranium, fusing the shards back together and neutralizing the effect that was causing Earth's vibranium to go wonky.
