"In the velvet darkness... of the blackest night..."

"Thank goodness you called for help Betty, I mean, we might have been stuck doing things we find pleasurable or something!"

Wait, he doesn't exactly seem to be involved in any actual SCIENCE, seemingly being more of a supernatural sort than a mad scientist. Is this a bizarre swipe at science in some way? Also, I believe he needs to have a teaching position to be a professor...

Were those women people, robots or demons? Did they survive Betty blowing up the place?

Kind of hilarious that the dude's evil plan involved getting Jughead addicted to a much healthier diet than he current had.

This is indeed a very silly comic.

"Yeah Betty, that's a nice thought and all, but I'm literally stuck in a literal house with a literal mad man. Seriously, call the damn police."

Also, apparently God's cool with Betty using her magic powers to destroy the house and potentially kill a bunch of people, but not Jughead eating right or Veronica sitting on a bunch of rocks or Reggie harmless masturbating to himself. That's a lot of picking-and-choosing there, sin-wise.

She's a D&D cleric. Call Lightning.

Maybe they're Thor worshippers!

Druids can use it, but I think it's accessible to either.

Hate to be "That guy" again, but judging by the page numbering, this is more than a third of a story and thus needs to be trimmed.

Terrific if they are, but if you'll forgive the pedantry, can you point me towards proper confirmation of that?

Even the Spire Comics wiki-page doesn't mention it.

I can confirm Spire's in the public domain. Spire went bankrupt and pieces were purchased individually. I myself purchased the rights to Hansi, the Girl who loved the Swastika.

It's a very complicated area because the trademark is null and void (http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=4010:n401u3.1.1)and is the company. With so little of Spire's pieces actually purchased by anyone (Archie didn't even bother with the comics using their characters!), it's a very complicated ownership issue where no one owns anything and thus it's currently in the public domain. However, anyone could try and buy SPire's bits and pieces for pennies and then wham - no longer public.

And Beelzebub is certainly no Adrian Veidt.

You're supposed to explain it 35 minutes AFTER you've taken Archie's soul you big dummy.

Also, this guy has kind of a stupid concept of what constitutes Slavery.

Maybe I'm not entirely clear on the concept of slavery, but if you stuff a guy in a room with everything they could ever want, in what way is that slavery. He's basically giving these guys room and board and all the stuff they could ever want.

I mean sure he's acting all evil and triumphant, but it looks like he's losing out on the deal.

He means that Jughead is now a slave to his own selfish desires, and as the embodiment of sin. Jughead could be said to be his slave.

See that's the part I don't buy: That this guy is the devil.

I mean he says his name is Beelzebub, he acts like the devil, but we never see him demonstrate a demonic appearance, or even use any evil supernatural abilities.

Heck, for all we know this guy could just be the Mentor to Doctor Decepto from the Bibleman series. He's beaten in pretty much the same way.

Most religions place a lot of value on the immaterial rather than the material; the people are slaves to the material Stuff they desire.

After all, all these can't be physicists and chemists

I'd say Q is anything BUT mad, his devices are thought out and beautifully designed and crafted. The fact that they are deliberately designed for subversive missions, rather than because it's just something he does for fun (So the Saw guy would count).

I remember Dr Avarius and Electronique being Team Go enemies, don't recall a maths based villain, but I'd be delighted to corrected, since I did rather love Team Go!

"Nobody else can fight it for you!"
And then God blew up the house. I'm getting some mixed messages there.

Still, as these Christian Archie comics go this one actually seems pretty okay, it's delivering a fairly standard moral without demonizing any real people. It's certainly better than the one about evolution in the Old West.

I get that they were probably going for a seven deadly sins thing, but all the same, it's pretty funny to put the respective temptations side by side and compare: "For the price of your soul, I can give you anything your heart desires! Wealth...glory...sex...fresh fruit!"

Does the comic ever explain why Betty is randomly walking around outside?

Oh, Archie, you're such a terrible friend. Like, three people you know are being trapped by (I guess) the devil and you're not really all that bothered about it until your turn came up.
