This is a repost of an older entry here from a little over two years ago which I figured might be good for Halloween.

This is from The Haunt of Fear #14.

The story (which is narrated by the "Old Witch") opens with two villagers discovering a dead body. One man notices there are puncture marks on the man's neck and deduces it is the work of a vampire. The other notices that the corpse is partially devoured, and therefore believes that a a werewolf is responsible.

We then have a little flashback...

The two hide out in a cave, where they rest for the next full moon until they can go out again and feast. Their relationship doesn't last long, unfortunately--after a certain amount of time, an angry mob discovers their hiding place. Zorgo is shot with a silver bullet, and Elicia is staked. They are then buried in "The Devil's Graveyard", a place where murderers and creatures of evil are interred.

As night falls, corpses begin to rise from their graves. They are all excited to hear that a werewolf and a vampire are betrothed, and hurry to attend the wedding.

But everyone knows that; First we have the primate monsters, vampires, werewolves and ghouls – but everyone knows about those. Now pay attention: A vampire and a werewolf would produce a werevamp. A werewolf and a ghoul would produce a weregoo. A vamire and a ghoul would produce a vamgoo. A weregoo and a werevamp would produce a shaddy. A weregoo and a vamgoo would produce a maddy. A werevamp and a vamgoo would produce a raddy. If a shaddy were to mate with a raddy or a maddy, it would result in a mock (which frankly, is just a polite name for a mongrel). Just remember the basic rules of monsterdom: Vampires suck, werewolves hunt and ghouls tear. Shaddies lick, maddies yawn and mocks blow. Oh but a Shadmock, which is the result if a mock were to mate with any other hybrid, whistles – and they don’t do it very often

Though I do like that the ghosts and co do seem genuinely delighted by the baby, and DO think she's beautiful.

Yea, witches as the offspring of other supernaturals was something that'd happen back in the day.

There was also folklore that a baby would grow up ugly if visited in its' first few days by an ugly person: hence why Rumprlstiltskin asks for the Queen's firstborn, so that he might have a little Runpelstiltskin to mould in his image.

In a piece of Brazilian folklore werewolves and witches were gender-coded: the seventh child of a mother who had six boys, if female, would be a witch, while a young brother to six sisters would be a werewolf.

Which means that Ginny Weasley technically confirms Brazilian folklore.

This reminds me of an idea I had. Vampires and werewolves are simply the males and females of the same breed.

Given that quite a few vampires in legend could traditionally shapeshift into wolves as well as bats and other night-creatures until the Universal movies more or less set them as... chiroptemorphs (?) it would be too much of a stretch.

And then there's the folklore referenced in Manly Wade Wellman's "The Last Grave of Lil Warren"; the titular villainess was a witch, who, after having become a werewolf through a diabolical pact, rose from the dead as a vampire.
