Date: 2012-11-07 08:45 pm (UTC)AvX was still utter unorganized crap... but this.... this is pretty solid story telling.
also i am with Magneto... take out the reporter (okay don't kill him but beat him up a bit maybe)... anyone who says that "CONCENTRATION CAMPS" is a viable option... ever... needs to not be able to say that anymore....

Date: 2012-11-07 08:54 pm (UTC)I'm also really digging this art, I'd love to see this artist do an ongoing or something.
That news anchor irks me though, I was expecting that given the Avengers involvement we'd be seeing mutant prejudice on the decline, but apparently not. And seriously now, who would suggest concentration camps and not expect to have their career spontaneously disappear? At least use a euphemism, "residential facilities" "monitoring stations" something that doesn't draw direct comparisons between yourself and Nazis.

Date: 2012-11-07 08:58 pm (UTC)So Cyclops and Wolverine have essentially switched roles? I'm surprisingly okay with this, and it's good to see that Marvel isn't actually branding Cyclops as a villain now.-
Yea, I find it pretty fitting. Goes with both of their character arcs.

Date: 2012-11-07 08:58 pm (UTC)It should be remembered that this is taking place either before/during Uncanny Avengers #1--so it's likely that the regular public doesn't know this team exists yet.

Date: 2012-11-07 08:58 pm (UTC)The letter, though - um, they're really setting Cyke and Wolverine up in a Magneto/Xavier kind of position towards each other, aren't they? (Excuse me while I try to get that image out of my head again ...)

Date: 2012-11-07 09:19 pm (UTC)Also interesting that Marvel seems to kind of be having its' cake and eating it too: You have one team of X-Folks that looks to be marginally "acceptable" to the public (the Jean Grey School) and a separate "outlaw" group (Scott's team). Not that this isn't a dynamic that hasn't existed before within the X-titles, but it's still interesting to see.
Also interesting to see that Marvel's doing a good job of having Scott stay true to his character evolution over the past several years. Love it or hate it, at least it's been consistent.

Loved Scott's and Logan's arcs in this story.

Date: 2012-11-07 11:18 pm (UTC)We've got more mutants being born/made (ignoring the morality of that action and the fact that those new mutants may not like being given acidic sweat or tentacles growing from their faces) so that big goal of the AvX event is for all intents and purposes taken care of. So what's Scott's next move here? What is he breaking out of prison to do?
I'm somewhat irked by this turn of events because I've never thought of the X-men as a straight-up "save the world" type of group. I've always remembered them as the classic civil rights and equality analogue and more, I dunno "street-level" in terms of what they do.

Date: 2012-11-07 11:41 pm (UTC)Steve is out of his Scale-Mail! As iconic as it was, I hated that costume so much. It really just kept looking more and more out of date, especially with those boots.

Date: 2012-11-08 08:26 pm (UTC)On the upside, I can see them being like some kind of extreme version of how they used to be, and it could be set up as a slightly more well thought out X-Force. I'd like to see them, eventually, return Scott to being at least respected by the hero community, but this is an allright step for now.
On the Scott/Logan-Xavier/Magneto comparions, I agree with what people are saying here, Logan's being written far too tool-ish for that to work. The main problem is that they're trying to turn Logan into something he's not. Logan is the guy who does what he does and doesn't give a crap, but has standards. He's not the self righteous 'I have standards so no matter what else I do I'm a better person then you are even if my goals aren't nearly as great as I think they are, also I'm a shit leader' guy they've had him as recently. Logan always worked better, for me, as either the arrogant subordinate who's tolerated out of respect when on a team, or as a solo figure. He's not a leader. Everything about him makes him a terrible choice for leadership. He can work as a mentor to a spunky young teen within reason precisely because he's not a good teacher, but they bring out a softer side to him. They keep trying to sell him like this, but it doesn't work.
Bendis may not be a perfect writer, but he's proven a few times to be the only guy in Marvel's top brass who actually understands Logan.
