Dead Presidents Pool

I can't say how happy I am that Way is done with the title (if not with the character altogether *sighs*). What gives the new team?

So this crazy guy does a necromantic ritual to bring back dead American presidents out of the presumption that only they can fix the US in its current state. That does not go well.

Meet Agent Preston.





It is not an easy job, working for SHIELD.



The untold adventures of Thor and Deadpool! Alas, that's pretty much all we see of them.



So Wade and FDR fight...







... and it's on.

Verdict: not bad. At least it's funny in a snappy way (if a bit easy at times). We already have one supporting character who doesn't look too bad which is more than could be said of Way's run; and all the boxes are gone which is a GOOD THING. We'll have to wait and see if we'll get anything like depth and nuance in characterisation too.

there are similarities but she's kind of like a baby Amanda Waller. I mean, she doesn't really have the attitude and the badassness and iron will yet.

Preston looked like a fairly young/inexperienced (at least at leading) agent to me--give her time.

Slightly OT, but it's funny--for half-a-second after I posted that I thought, "Oh shit, I'm going to get FLAMED for insulting the Wall around these parts..."

well, I think of Amanda as crazy AWESOME, and she's always supposed to be morally ambiguous and very ends justify the mean. Thought there are some less than ideal portrayal of her too.

First Deadpool title I've been particularly interested in since Cable and Deadpool (a contender for my top 10 all time favorites) went down.
"Here's a New Deal; DIE!"
was great but I lost it at
"Nothing can prepare you for when Stephen Hawking goes crazy."

I actually loved Way's run. It's true, there was a total lack of supporting cast, but I loved the boxes and the overall absurdity. Well, until recently anyways, then I feel like it started to go downhill pretty fast. But the whole "joining the X-Men" thing, and his bout with Bullseye, I loved those.

Fortunately, this also looks pretty good, so I'm not too concerned.

Yeah there were a few arcs of Way's run that I found good too; but I hate the direction he threw Deadpool in for so long and how it has come to redefine the character in an overly cartoonish and gross humour way. Not that those things aren't part of the character, but I think there are other aspects which became completely overshadowed.

That's actually why I loved him so much in this run (and why the upcoming game worries me). Yeah, he got a little weirder and grosser, but oddly enough not in a sexual way. Sure there were points along the way about him going gaga over some beautiful woman, but there was a surprising lack of over-the-top innuendo and focus on it. It was always more about the crazy obsessions with mexican food or pop culture references, or hero worship (of himself or other heroes.)

But I can't say there was a lot of depth either. A few little arcs and a little theme of him wanting to be a hero, that issue with the pizza delivery scene. The best actual characterization moments I can think from him in the past years are actually out of X-Force instead. So yeah, I can see how the character got turned into this crazy and shallow thing, and I loved it, but i can see how it would irk people.
