Hm, I wonder if that's the New 52 source wall on the Superman cover. Also, that Action Comics cover is awesome. And I wonder why I, Vampire is still in the solicitations? I thought that it was being canceled, with the main artist moving on to Green Arrow kind of confirming that. Unless, he's going to be doing both books at the same time. If it's the latter, I hope that this doesn't affect the quality of Green Arrow, because I was going to pick that book up because of the creator team.

I haven't heard any news about I, Vampire being cancelled. I really hope it isn't since so far it's one of my favourite series in the new 52.

So far as I can tell, it's not.

According to IGN, the next wave of cancellations (coming in January) will be: Frankenstein: Agent of SHADE, Grifter, Blue Beetle, and Legion Lost.

That's fewer books than the new ones that are being announced, but 2 of the six apparently coming between now and February being minis would fix that discrepancy.

Yeah, I'd heard about that wave. I know there is speculation the I, Vampire could be next but I'm hoping it has enough fan support to be spared, since I've mostly heard positive reviews, after people got over the vampire stigma.

Looking at the numbers, I, Vampire is a little above the ones getting axed this time around (meaning it could be on the block for the next go 'round), but it's one of the few books, period, that the numbers don't consistently fall - it's had a few minor increases (during the crossover with JLDark, it looks like), and had one of the stronger bumps for it's 0 issue (the 0 issues bumped every title's sales, ranging from the pathetic 9% that Flash (which is a strong seller, so didn't need the bump, really) got to over 30% for Voodoo (for which the 0 issue was the last) - I, Vampire was in the 20s). So it's fairly safe for now, I'd say.

That's good to hear. I wait for the trades so I'm only just reading the series now but I really loved I, Vampire, more than I expected to even though I had heard all the good reviews for it.

I've already had a few titles I was eyeing get cancelled (actually all three of the last wave were ones I was considering getting) but so far none that I've actually bought. Hopefully it will stay that way because they've all been good so far.

I really do question the practicality of Green Arrow's costume. I mean, romping around in short sleeves in the torrential rain is just a bad idea. He'll catch his death of cold.
Wonder Woman looks interesting, Orion and Ares chasing (?) Wondy as she holds Zola's stolen baby. Definitely interested in this series.
I was really hoping that the Earth-2 book was past the inter-hero fighting phase. It appears I was wrong.

I haven't done archery in a while, but IIRC sleeves can be annoying. Besides, not everything needs to be practical in comics. Eye candy is as good a reason for costume choice as most.

Wonder Woman covers tend to be pretty deceptive and don't really show what's in the book. #11 shows her sitting on the throne of Zeus. #12 shows her kissing Apollo. #13 shows her wandering the deserts.

And I really hope they at least give some explanation for how the Greek gods work like where they get their power, the rules they have to follow, who is more powerful, etc. So far, things have just been really arbitrary, which is kind of the way it is in the real myths but it is very annoying. Like why did throwing a candle from Hades' head break Hera's scrying pool, why did Hera suddenly believe that Zeus would return, how exactly did Apollo take Zeus's throne, how did Apollo gain the power to make Hera a mortal, etc. It seems like Azzarello is just making stuff up as he goes along and since it's magic, he doesn't bother to establish any rules for how things work and going with the "a wizard did it" explanation.

I don't think some of those need a proper explanation. Hera said that Zeus will come back because he wouldn't want anyone replacing him, at least that's what she thought. And for a moment she believed that he actually came back when Olympus started shattering. I'm guessing that Apollo could turn Hera into a mortal because he became the head god.

But it's all so arbitrary. Why was Hera worried about Poseidon and Hades trying to go after Zeus's throne if she thought Zeus wouldn't let it happen? How did Apollo even become the king of Olympus? Did he just automatically gain the power of Zeus by sitting in Zeus's throne? If it's so easy to take Zeus's power then why didn't Hera use that power to kill Zola or why didn't Poseidon, Hades, or Hermes just teleport to Zeus's throne and steal his power while no one was watching?

If the writer can just make stuff up on the spot then they won't need to write a story that makes sense. Azzarello could have Wonder Woman escape some death trap by giving her the power to teleport by clicking her bracelets together or he could say that the whole prophecy was a prank by Zeus because he's a huge jerk and got bored.

I've been unsure before how to describe Supergirl's current costume, but these covers really cleared it up for me. Crotch-shield. She's wearing quite reasonable top, and a crotch shield. Is this a Kryptonian heritage thing?

She's always had a bird-themed costume. This, assuming it actually is Raven, actually has a less birdlike overall look than her old costume, simply by virtue of being less stylized. Aside from the feathery bits on her shoulders, this has a draconic aspect, rather than avian - the cape having a scalloped edge, suggestive of a bat-like, rather than feathered wing, and the mask suggesting a bony crest, common to many depictions of dragons.

Whereas the old one, where the cape suggested wings without suggesting any particular type, and the hood had the peaked front edge forming a 'beak' when in silhouette, so the overall look was a stylized bird (albeit one more aquiline than corvid-like).

Kinda like the Kryptonian Battle Armor on Kon, though I think it'd do better to separate him from Superman if it was black and red instead of blue and red.

I would warm up to this New52 Superboy if he would keep that kryptonian look from now on.

And nice to see some good ol' Hawkman foes back on the scene! (though since I haven't touched this title since its DCnU start...)
