Imagine it: Robert Downey Jr., in the role of Captain Kirk, bedding strange alien space babes. Well, nothing as exciting as that, but the new direction they are taking Iron Man is interesting.

ComicBookResources
has the scoop as what is coming up next for Tony Stark once the chase for the Extremis virus reaches its conclusion.

From the article:

Following introductions, moderator and Sales & Communications Coordinator James Viscardi kicked off the call, asking Gillen to describe the second arc of "Iron Man" called "The Godkiller."

"Basically, Tony Stark's in space," said Gillen, who stated he knew Tony would be in space during issue #6. The story takes place before Iron Man becomes part of the Guardians of the Galaxy. "It's things that Tony's been involved in catching up with him," he said. Some of the arc will deal with Tony and the back history of the Phoenix catching up with him, as well as the issues of faith that got brought up in "Avengers Vs. X-Men."

Anyone catch that? Iron Man as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy?!

Yeah, they said as much when they announced the new Guardians of the Galaxy book by Bendis and McNieven a while back, and they hinted at the Guardians wanting to take Tony up to space in the last part of Bendis' Assemble storyline. That said, he's not a permanent member--it sounds like one of the things about Guardians is there will occasionally be an Avenger or X-Man teamed up with them.

All that said, since you mention it, if in either this IM arc or in GOTG, if we don't see Tony shaggin' some green alien women, I'm going to be PISSED. Such a wasted opportunity!

The only green skilled girls he might run into offhand would be Mantis (Married, and/or an alien plant woman... I think) and Gamora,a frankly terrifying warrior/assassin who was raised by freaking THANOS!!

Meeting the parents could be a tad awkward to say the least.

Which is precisely why he'll probably do it.

And also, isn't Mantis widowed? Or something. Her backstory is weird.

Gamora's knocked boots with a puny Earthling before (i.e., Richard Rider of the Green Lantern, er, Nova Corps) and she apparently didn't kill and eat him after copulation so I don't see why Tony should be frightened. Possibly Mantis did that and that's the reason she's widowed.

As for more green skinned space babes available for space boning, the only other one I can think of is Lyja. I suppose Tony could also hook up with another random Skrull woman or even a Skrull man since Xavin has claimed that Skrulls are all bi - whether it's sexual or merely curious I think is up for debate since lots of other Skrulls like the Super Skrull seem to code themselves solely as masculine. Or perhaps Skrulls spend their teenage years deciding if they like sexing more on the male or female end.

Not sure I like this. Marvel Cosmic worked so well on its own, whenever a main character starts getting involved things get complicated or unnecessarily dark. People have to make way for the big hero from earth that everybody (I mean readers) knows and loves.

Guaranteed somebody dies. Probably somebody I love.

Yeah, Marvel cosmic works great because the characters are so obscure or relatively unpopular so the writers have greater leeway for creativity. Before Annihilation when was the last time anyone gave half a fart for the likes of Starlord or Rocket Raccoon?

I wonder if it'll ever get to a point where aliens see a human coming and flee, considering the amount of stuff they've done in fictional universes, both individually and together.

Like how Reed Richards has repeatedly fended off Galactus etc. Or the Justice League, who once boasted how they "beat up gods and make them cry" during one of Warren Ellis' storylines.

Well, in SWORD, they did intimidate an alien invasion into leaving.

And way back in the pre-Annihilation Drax the Destroyer mini, some criminals crashed on earth, some talked of staying, but then a smarter one said, "No, bad move. Earth itself may be largely low-tech, but they've got the Fantastic Four, Avengers.... I hear even a Galactus Herald hangs out sometimes."

Still, the news about 'do not mess with earth' never seems as widespread as it should be ^^

What happened to that Alaskan girl hanging around Drax? Last I remember Gamora ditched her on some planet with a sociopathic space fairy as companion.

From what we saw in Avengers Assemble and what Bendis has said about the book, that is kind-of what this take on the GOTG's going to be about--in a lot of ways, it's protecting the Galaxy from Earth as much as the other way around.

Well Earth has fended off Galactus a few times. Done some serious damage to some of the various races. There has been several alternate worlds and futures where the Earth basically takes over the world (mind you there is just as many opposite ones).

As it is 'Maximum Security' was because a vast majority of races feared the Earth because of what they have achieved.

One of my favorite moments is back in Uncanny X-Men, the introduction of Lilandra and the Shi'ar. The Shi'ar are chasing her and she lands, of course, on Earth. They're all set to pursue until this happens:

Science officer: "Sir, this planet has beaten back Galactus four times recently."
Captain: "GET US THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!"

I think the number was actually five, but yeah that was a hilarious moment. You'd think the various invading races would know better by now.

Apparently Death's Head will be making an appearance. I wonder how they'll swing that given that the original is dead, the second sucked, and they've never really had a definitive third version. Of course I think the character is supposed to be a time traveller, so that would be the lazy man's way of getting around that.

There were, IIRC, Death's Head robots used as guards in Planet Hulk.

It is easy enough to explain away a mechanical lifeform uploading his consciousness to another body, yes?

Death's Head already appeared in Gillen's SWORD, apparently Pre-Transformers, and the justification then was pretty much "If you can't bring back a dimension-hopping mechanoid from the future, who can you bring back?" Whatever, I'm happy just to assume that the Death's Head in this and SWORD(who's 30 foot tall, like his original appearance) is simply the 616 version.

That's weird, I thought Marvel was doing this thing were they ignore the back history of the Phoenix. Funny.

I hope they use this opportunity to make earth small again. The whole "earth is the center of the universe and humans are the most awesome species in all of existence" trope is getting really tiring.

That's been a standard Marvel Universe story beat for something like thirty years. It's not going anywhere. The best you can get is probably the Annihilation beat where everyone from anywhere else treats Earth like it's a ticking bomb.
