YOUNG JUSTICE #25
Written by GREG WEISMAN
Art and cover by CHRISTOPHER JONES
FINAL ISSUE
• The heroes make their last stand against Kylstar and Brainiac!
• Metropolis is still in danger, but now the entire planet risks destruction!
• Deadshot hits his target!

yj_cv25_02

Sigh, another quality title bites the dust (Seriously, has ANY scene in the whole New 52 come anywhere near "Say it backwards" for sheer sexiness?) and the way the toy line tanked and Cartoon Network are treating the show... this does not bode well for a season 3.

There's an interview with YJ comic scribe Christopher Jones here if you are interested)

And then there's this...

YOUNG ROMANCE: A NEW 52 VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL #1
Written by ANDY DIGGLE, ANN NOCENTI, CECIL CASTELLUCCI, PETER MILLIGAN and others
Art by GENE HA, EMANUELLA LUPPICHINNO, BECKY CLOONAN, PHIL JIMENEZ, SANFORD GREEN and others
Cover by KENNETH ROCAFORT
• Romance is in the air in this very special Special!
• Wonder Woman consults Eros himself about her feelings for The Man of Steel.
• Barbara Gordon has always been too busy for romance, but could her role as Batgirl bring her back to the first guy she ever kissed?
• Following the events of “Death in the Family,” how can Catwoman ease Batman’s troubled soul?
• Aquaman makes waves as he treats his wife like a queen for a day.
• From the pages of STORMWATCH, Apollo and Midnighter celebrate Valentine’s Day separately but with each other in mind. Who—or what—stands between them?
• Dick Grayson and the daughter of Lucious Fox meet-cute!
• Plus: Perforated Valentine’s Day cards featuring the stars of these stories!

young_romance_1_02

For starters I hope they mean Lucius Fox, because "Lucious Fox" sounds like a porn starlet (Okay, that would be Luscious, rather than Lucious, but it's way closer!)

Secondly I hope it's not Tamara, because Dick (From the ways it's phrased I suspect this will be a flashback to Dick as a kid... well, the 16 year old he now was before he met Bruce) getting lovey-dovey with one of Tim's old girlfriends would just in incredibly weird, even by Batclan dating standards.

Same-sex romance in a valentine's day special! That's awesome!

...separately but with each other in mind. Who—or what—stands between them?"

I think that's most to do with the story that's going on in Stormwatch at the moment--basically a former member of the group is aiming to destroy the organization from the inside by impersonating one of their Shadow Lord rulers, and the next few issues will be Midnighter being framed and getting thrown out of the group.

But hey, at least the marketing copy mentioned Batwoman, so hopefully some sweet same-sex story thing will happen there, depending on how Williams and whatshisface finishes this story they've been building up.

I know, I know, I don't think they're deliberately trying to be homosexually chaste, but it just sounds so unfortunate when the only gay pairing in a book about romance stories just happens to be the one that won't show them being intimate with each other.

Where does it say that there's a Batwoman story in it?

So while all the other couples get to be together on Valentine's day, they've engineered some excuse for why Apollo and Midnighter have to be separated? Well there go the 5 seconds I spent being excited about that.

They're apparently going to bring back the DC Nation block in January. There's a lot of rumors about the reasons why, from animation delays to a brief legal snafu regarding Milestone (the episode that was coming out the week it was pulled had a cameo for Static).

Also Steph, though the fact that they removed Icon from the comicbook around the same time as the episode was removed indicates it was probably an issue with the Milestone characters.

Which is weird, considering Rocket, Icon etc. were all featured pretty prominently up until it was put on haitus.

Considering just how long in advance they have to make these things, how small of an appearance she had, and the truly different aspects of Warner Brothers, I think the Steph thing is just a case of the character having some cosmically awful bad luck.

The blog post that announced this at DC's site mentions Batwoman in it, so I'm thinking it's just one of the smaller stories.

WHAT THE--FINAL ISSUE?!

Sorry guys, I think I have to take the blame for it. See, when I resolved to make "Young Justice" the only new DC title that I buy, I should have known it was only a matter of time. If the past year has taught me nothing else, it's that DC really, really, doesn't want my money.

So basically, take a series that has been bringing in viewers, was a top seller on iTunes, had its comic sales INCREASE last month...And then pull all of it. Pull the thing that is making money because...

...

...I really can't understand the 'because' behind this. Because DC hates making money? Because they were infected with Starro Tech? Because they're all secretly monkeys? That's the best I've got.

Reading some of the comments Dan Didio and co have made, recently, I think it might be a case that they think it isn't making enough money, OR don't like that the series' creative team too much creative freedom when making the show.

http://espanolbot.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/flogging-dead-horse-everchanging-status.html

Remember folks, fans of Cass Cain and Stephanie Brown are just a vocal minority, and that Steph would have have been made Nightwing just to appease a handful of fans and the writer!

Not making enough money really leaves me confused on what their standard is. Granted I haven't been looking really closely at the financial figures, but the praise seems pretty wide spread, and the sales for the actual show and the comics seem to be quite good.

Petty minded when it comes to the creative team though, that I can buy. God forbid that someone writes a better series then the official comics.

How are you defining "quite good"? The only lower selling DC title is the Green Lantern animated series tie-in. YJ's estimated sales for this month was 7,515 copies. For comparison, the lowest selling DC Universe title for that month is PHANTOM LADY at 12,653 copies.

"Not a smoking crater in the ground that my money is draining out of" pretty much. I'm reading that there's a slow increase in the sales by month, but I guess that's small change compared to other titles.

Luscious Fox is my new fave name. I'll miss Young Justice, both the book and the toon. It was nice having the pre-Flashpoint DCU still available in some form. Many of those characters do appear in the 'new 52', or have yet to debut (M'gann's already cameoed), but some, like Conner, have been replaced with totally different (and less interesting, for me, at least) versions.
