When did the dialogue in this book become so weak and generic?

Also, I'd forgotten how much I hate Sabretooth, and how much I hate how they downgraded Daken so badly.

I don't know if it's so much that Remender forgot how to do good dialogue but more that he's laying all his cards on the table. This is what this book has truly been about this whole time. "This is revenge. This is what it gets." What I thought was always interesting about this book was that while it fulfilled the promise/premise of the book, it deconstructs it by showing the ramifications and consequences of the work they have to do.

So while the dialogue's a little ham-fisted, it works for me. Plus, we get some pretty heart-wrenching stuff of panels of what could have been between Logan and Daken, played against Logan drowning his son in a shallow puddle.

I always had mixed feelings on Sabretooth. Occasionally, he can come out with mildly entertaining one liners, but he's largely a vicious, irredeemable, cold blooded killer with a large skill set that basically says 'he want it, you dead'. At times, that makes for interesting reading. Other times, it comes off as boring and weakly written, and kinda jarring.

Concerning Daken, I consider this massive derailment here. Daken's got being a master manipulator as one of is abilities. He might be able to be duped, but he'd be able to spot through blatant manipulation, and wouldn't for a second lower his guard around a guy like Sabretooth. Then, while he has a lot of issues with his father (though at large they've been resolved, now his issue is that his father tries to be good and he doesn't like that), but wanting his approval is definitely not one. He wouldn't eat up at the chance of a surrogate dad, at all.

Though, it did make me search up on Daken's recent history and find that he was part of a What if, about what would happen if Logan stayed and took care of Daken. By the end of it, Logan has to kill him because, even though he was raised in a healthy, stable, and loving environment, he still became a serial killing sociopath. It sounds like an interesting read.

I'm glad I ended up not picking this up now, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who disliked this little event.

Damn, I liked Daken. He was a total sociopath, it made him a very entertaining villain. Now he's gone. Damn you, shock value-targeted writing.

Machiavellian, educated, self-serving, super-sexual homme fatale keeps getting destroyed by daddy-obsessed, Wolverine-like tough guy.

This. All the people that he's killed or disabled or made miserable over the years, and nobody from the vast moral spectrum inhabited by various X-people has thought to dropkick him into orbit or throw him into an incinerator (or mind-control him into doing so). Because, I guess, he's too much of a dick to kill off permanently.

Why does Logan appear to be chowing down, or possibly blowing, Evan's chest in that last panel?

i agree Evan was one of the best things...

i didn't hate this... but i agree with Salinea, the dream sequence was cliched and heteronormative. i never minded Daken being a "depraved bisexual" only because most writers played it really well.

but the dream sequence would have been nice to see this MAJOR side of his portrayed in a non depraved sense, you know, well adjusted and going to the prom with a boy, (or hell a boy AND a girl)

yes i know that this could be Logan's fantasy, but what does that say that in his perfect world, Daken would be "fixed". it seems so counter Logan, i mean he LIKES and respects Jean Paul...

Logan's had enough moments of hypocrisy that I don't have a hard time buying that he's one of those "it's fine if you're queer, but that doesn't mean I want it for my kid" types, especially if it's on an subconscious level.

Wait, WHAT? Why did Logan drown Daken in a puddle? I'm not even a fan of Daken, but HOLY SHIT, how does a character come back from that insane moral event horizon?

He was also trying to protect Evan. As long as Daken lived, he would always try to turn Evan into the next Apocalypse.

And this isn't even the first time he's killed one of his own right? Didn't he kill a few of his children in a Wolverine issue a while back? Yeesh.

Except this time he's fully aware that the person he is killing is his son. Worse, he had to do it in a slow and personal way (drowning) instead of killing him in the heat of battle.
