Orion and Wonder Woman both drawn by Cliff Chiang is a dream come true. I can't wait. I hope when the Azz/Chiang Wondy run finishes up, they do a new gods book.

Yup, this is why I finally started buying Wonder Woman.
Not sure about Orion's helmet though, I liked that before he was kind of brutish under the helmet and he wore it so he wouldn't look like his father.

In Kirby's original comic, Orion actually had a pretty normal face...sort of. Motherbox had a kind of veil or hologram over it so he wouldn't scare people. He revealed his true face to his closest friends once, though.

Though I doubt it's the case here (because New 52 demands pretty people, dammit!), it'd be neat if that's what it was.

Yeah, I'll actually be really disappointed if Orion doesn't look scary and have major anger issues. But I don't see a Motherbox anywhere on his person, which makes me worry just a bit.

One thing Waid got wrong, back in the day, was the idea that Orion NEEDED Mother Box, almost like a leash. Or that without her, he'd go full-tilt crazy.

That's not how it worked. She transformed his face, yes, but it wasn't a Jekyll-Hyde thing. There's nothing here that contradicts Kirby or Simonson (the ony runs that count, IMHO. ;) ).

I would argue that Orion under Kirby did not really have anger issues. His problem was that he *enjoyed* violence to much, which would lead him to getting carried away with it. But it wasn't about anger. The berserker Wolverine-ish Orion came from later writers.

There are glimmers of the old Orion in here. I'm willing to give Azz the benefit of the doubt.

Figures that the one part of this particular comic where I actually said to myself "My god, 14 issues in and they finally managed to make Diana act like Wonder Woman for once." But no. Apparently, these gods are popular for some reason.

Also, screw Earth. Screw Earth hard. It brought us the new 52.
