Hi again!

Last issue, the Defenders learned whose brain was residing in Nighthawk's skull. Nighthawk recapped his origin, and the Defenders were knocked out by Ruby Tuesday.

Now, let's look at six pages of eighteen (and dessert) from "The Defenders" #33.

There's a long recap of Chondu's experiences, although he can only speculate on which spell Doctor Strange used to switch his mind into the body of a fawn. He woke up just in time to see the Defenders depart, then used the Orb to see them arrive at the Headmen's hideout and get blasted by Ruby. (He doesn't know who Ruby is, but surmises she's the new Headman Nagan mentioned earlier.)

The scene shifts to Central Park in New York City, two teenagers named Cissy and Mitchell launch a canoe into the lagoon. Cissy mocks Mitchell's nervousness. Sure it's illegal, but the worst that will happen is a scolding, right? Wrong. Red scaled creatures rise from the water and capture the teens. Then they take off in their flying saucer.

Jack Norriss in Chondu's brain in Kyle Richmond's body is introduced to Ruby, who takes a shine to the handsome body.

The three actual Headmen briefly recap their motivations, then Jack has to bluff his way with some psuedo-mystic bullshit about freedom and mysteries. while he does this, Chondu breaks out of the Sanctum only to fall into the claws of the red scaly things.

The scene shifts to a rock in the middle of the ocean with a single structure on it. Inside is an old lady who insists this architecture is Greek. She's surrounded by an assortment of diverse humans and animals. Cissy and Mitchell are there, and Mitchell points out that a weird machine in the center of the building is definitely not of ancient Greek design. Suddenly the fawn appears.

The three Defenders who aren't Nighthawk begin waking up after their "treatment", and Nagan is in the middle of explaining that no, it won't make them docile when Hulk decides to attack.

Doctro Strange restrains Hulk momentarily, pointing out that they don't know why the Headmen attacked them. Nagan brushes off the question and "allows" the Defenders to leave. Except they aren't going without Nighthawk's brain.

Ruby realizes they knew all along and deliberately let "Chondu" lead them there, while attacking Doc. Valkyrie tries to bluff Ruby, but is held back by her "cannot hit women" limitation. Hulk, despite still being restrained, manages to bring down the house. The next door neighbor gets a good laugh--the Hulk previously knocked his house down.

And now, a quick word from our sponsor.

I love the wicked complexity of this plotline...you've already got Jack Norriss' mind in Chondu's brain in Nighthawk's body, and it's just getting started.

It's a shame that getting to ride around in someone else's body didn't make Jack a little more sympathetic to what Valkyrie is going through...
