I thought the idea was that idea was that he would do the bad stuff so that Wolverine and the others didn't have to. Starting up his own school in an abandoned military based just comes of as more terrorist-y than proactive revolutionary.
However, I'm absolutely fascinated waiting for Cyclops to get that atrocious x-visor costume. It's glorious in its ridiculousness.

Two things come to mind:

1. Cyclops knows that he's going to be labeled as the former no matter what, so what's the point?

2. One could probably argue that the X-base under either the Xavier or Jean Grey school could probably count as something akin to a military base.

At least, I assume that's what Scott's going to say. Otherwise, isn't this a terrible location for a secret hideout? Yeah, no one knows about it...except for all the X-characters who were experimented on there. Plus all their friends and the laundry list of psychics who've played around in their brains. Plus all the shadowy government dudes who worked there or helped create it, most of whom hate mutants.

How about taking over some spot that had nothing to do with mutants? Go live on Monster Island or something, the Mole Man doesn't give a f*ck.

I can't imagine prospective students being comfortable living in a hell dimension populated by demons. And while Scott is pretty keen on the whole Antihero thing, I don't think he wants people to get the impression that mutants are literal demons.

TBF, he does feel guilty about it -- it's why he initially agreed to stay in prison. He only broke out when he realized the prison staff didn't give a crap if a mob lynched a mutant prisoner.

Why not call it the Gabrielle Haller School? That's pretty neutral territory, plus Mags totally owes her one.

Surely this scene of horrifying trauma for their people will inspire the young people adopted by Scott to seek peaceful co-existance with humanity, and not become the violent fanatical superpeople that they fear them to be.

Though on the other hand, aren't they in Marvelverse Canada? Isn't that place meant to be like ten times worse in their treatment of people in general than the Marvelverse USA?

Since Scott is basically following a slightly softer and less kill-happy version of Magneto's playbook, he ought to call it the Eisenhardt Institute, after Magneto's original name.
