So one of the running subplots in Nightwing in the New 52, has been Dicks sweet, if hideously naive, plan to re-open an abandoned amusement park in Gotham to entertain the masses. The fact that he picked "Amusement Mile", the same site as used as the Joker's base in "The Killing Joke" pretty much guaranteed that it would be more doomed than usual, even for Gotham.

One of the more interesting background characters in the title has been Jimmy, the former clown with the Haly Circus, who, as you might imagine, is positively phobic about being a REAL clown in Gotham. But he has stayed on after the circus basically broke up, convinced by Dick's intentions. But he's not happy about being the poster boy for the circus, but as he heads off for a drink (Down a darkened alley no less, my cliché-ometer is starting to go off) when a voice emerges from the shadows...



"NOW I see it..."

Okay, that's a fairly decent Joker type lethal gag, but it is desperately... obvious. The Joker kills a clown?

It does seem a little obvious, but like you said, gotta give it points for being kind of old school. Most what Joker's done in this storyline has been pretty dark and torture-y so I can appreciate this relatively clean, or at least less gratuitously hideous, kill.

Plus...it's one way the Joker could deal with his deteriorating face, collect some spares.

And really, agreeing to be a clown in Gotham is just a really self-destructive path to take.

The guy at my comic store said he'd heard spoilers that Nightwing was about to get really crazy after this story. I asked him if he met crazy in a good way or in a way that was going to make me furious. He said both.

Eh, I don't know how this is any more 'Jokerish' than hitting Batman with a giant mallet, or tying him up with a bunch of chattering teeth, or doing a 'turn that frown upside-down' song and dance with his severed face.
