I'm not sure if it 100% fits with what we've seen in the Wonder Woman ongoing, but I do see where Johns is going, and I like that this still feels fairly natural as a dating couple.

Oh, and I just noticed we get a lasso transformation. That's cool. :D

i have to admit... i don't LOVE it... but i don't hate it either....

it still kinda feels like an else worlds... and i don't see them as kindred spirits liek Lois and Clark... but like i said... i don't hate it and even kinda like SOME of it...

i don't know... i am cuntfused.

Well, the way I look at it is that this is a slightly different universe, and really, the characters have been friends/rivals for a LOT longer than they've been married.

That kinda describes the new DCU as a whole for me. I don't think it's really hit me yet that the old universe just isn't coming back.

Well, if Azzarello's going to just keep on focusing on his larger story, and Johns is the one primarily pushing the romance along, I'm happy enough with that. There's enough going on in Azz's book that he doesn't really have to mention the relationship, and unless this proves to be a genuinely well-written thing in the long run and of real worth, I can happily ignore it until then.

True--though I would think that the lasso thing would be a power-set thing that would be explained in Azz's book at some point.

I think Azz's book is meant to primarily exist in its own pocket universe. It's fairly obvious that he has no interest in writing her as a superhero in a DC universe. He doesn't even mention her as part of JL, never mind dating Superman.

And I couldn't be more glad of it, really. I don't know what kind of dirt Azz has on Didio and the others (I kid, of course), but I wish more creators were just allowed to do their own thing and get on with telling stories rather than having to adhere to the really rather nightmarish constraints of the DCnU's architecture.

Nothing terribly ground-breaking or thought-provoking here, but it's cuter and less angsty than before. I'd like to see Diana taking the lead on jumping back into action, though, and not looking to Clark for direction.

She must look extremely silly when she runs and self-lassos at the same time. Doing it while flying seems less leg-tangly.

Is she really looking to Clark for direction? She just wonders what happened and he just happened to be the one to voice out their action first.

Also to no-prize it, she doesn't have his range of super-senses: presumably as soon as that sound happened and/or she asked what that was he was finding out via super hearing and x-ray vision, and determining that it was in fact "a job for us" rather than say just a tremor or something.

Even though I dislike the new costume (in some cases) for some reason Superman's S looks pretty cool when it's glowing

Yeah, I really like how they're playing with how his suit works--like now it seems like the suit retracts into the symbol, so he just slaps it on, the suit moves into position, and he's good to go.

It makes it so much more convenient for one, and it doesn't remove the classic Superman ripping open his shirt to reveal the S image. I just wish that they will get rid of the high collar, and some of the unnecessary lines. Still Ivan Reis and the artist from Superman Family Adventures draw the New 52 costume the best.

I like how Rocafort's been drawing it so far, but really, at this point I don't really think about the costume when I'm reading it. It could be streamlined (I think he should take some notes from the new Earth 2 Superman costume), but at this point I just see Superman in that costume.

This is the beginning of a cross-over between JL and Aquaman--an outside force tampered with a US battleship, making it launch torpedos into Atlantis. This understandably pisses Atlantis off and declares war. It's so far drowned both Metropolis and Gotham.

So yeah, a lot does happen here.

So let's see--after Crisis on Infinite Earths, George Perez did away with Wonder Woman having the Diana Prince secret identity presumably because it made her into a Clark Kent copycat. Now, 26 years later with the New 52, Geoff Johns brings back "Diana Prince" that is literally the result of Wonder Woman copying Superman and his Clark Kent disguise at Superman's urging. Yes, the New 52 Superman's ideal woman is not someone who is fiercely independent and unafraid to be herself but rather someone pliable he can mold and shape into someone just like him. To quote paraphrase his favorite fan, Jerry Seinfeld, Superman has been looking for himself all these years. :-P

"Diana Prince" was already brought back by Allan Heinberg, pre-new 52. And it's not bringing brought back here; she's not establishing an identity, she's wearing glasses one time so that nobody's going to get suspicious at Clark Kent being in public with Wonder Woman. But if you think trying out one of your date's hobbies means you're pliant and not independent, feel free.

Yeah, I do vaguely recall that (was it right after One Year Later?) so thanks for the reminder. Still, I was being tongue-in-check to illustrate a point, and that is that, ever since the relationship between Superman and Wonder Woman started, Diana, as far as the Justice League is concerned, is being defined through her relationship with Clark, not as a character in her own right like Azzerello is doing in Wonder Woman comic. That's because, like or not, Superman is the bigger icon and thus Wonder Woman, through this relationship, is now essentially a supporting character and sidekick to Superman as opposed to being someone with her own identity. And given how she's trying out Clark's "hobby" in this issue, we might as well call Diana "Superwoman" instead of "Wonder Woman" now.

The idea that Diana needs someone to teach her the importance of a secret identity and how to behave around ordinary humans really irritates me. It was stupid in Spirit of Truth and it's stupid here. Particularly given that she's already been depicted hanging out incognito in her own book. Christ, the fact that she comes from a different culture and may not be familiar with all aspects of American society doesn't mean she's a fucking moron.

Also, substituting Diana into rip-offs of Lois/Clark scenes from Smallville? Not cool.

Except the only thing he's teacher her here is the effectiveness of glasses as an identity concealer. And I think something's gone wrong if Superman's not the expert on *that*. :)
