Oh, Tim. You know you like it.

I repeat. Oh, Tim. You know you liked it.

Better be careful, though. You keep that snark up and Kon'll find a new BFF.

Wolverine, you will be eating those words pretty soon.

Who would be the other contenders? Tim isn't exactly a cuddly ball of trust in the New 52, Bart is probably a bit annoying, I have no idea what he thinks of Wonder Girl, Skitter is barely a character and Solstice is a bit of a downer

Now, I realise what you meant... that HAS to be Freudian slip, though of course, Bunker is the only one NOT in the closet... so to speak.

I enjoy Alfred's insights into boobology.

By this point, the man had dealt with Bruce, Dick, Jason and Tim going through puberty... he needed SOME sort of outlet.

Given the amount of testosterone flowing around the Batcave like a burst pipe in a basement, the fact all he has is a mild mammary fixation speaks volumes about Alfred's self-control.

Kon's "mad" face reminds me of Joe Kelly's take of his character... now I want to see old Kon with Reboot Kon (by Reboot Kon, I REALLY mean a Kon from a Reboot universe) and how well they "getalong"...

People don't masturbate in the marvel universe.

Then how the Hell do you explain the Bulleteer's origin story from the Morrison seven soldiers.

Her origin was that her asshole husband wanted to become a super hero because of a pin up girl from an internet superhero PORN site.

If people don't masturbate in the marvel universe, then why is there PORN? You stupid silly people.

DC, not Marvel.

His problem might well be that he COULDN'T masturbate DESPITE all the porn, that must be unspeakably frustrating.

Sorry, right. I was just stunned by so much stupid I had a brain fart.

But lets put this in perspective here:

Dr. Light, breaking into the JLA HQ and raping Sue Dibny? Perfectly okay to put in a comic according to DC.

Racist cop from Kandor Preus raping several women, reducing them to puddles of squishy broken meat with his Kryptonian Hate Fucking? A Okay to put in a comic. (Fun part? That comic? Was in the public library where I lived at the time, in the children's section.)

Black Mask torturing Stephanie Brown with a cordless drill, apparently killing her? Hey if its good enough for Saw, its good enough for our comic!

But even mentioning Masturbation? Hey now, we have to draw the line somewhere amirite? I mean there could be kids reading this.

Gaiman's anecdote is from the late 80s. Now it's totally okay to rape and torture people and maybe even masturbate! I think back to the Serial Convention part of Sandman and realise how understated it is, and all the scarier for that.

Like many of the best horror writers, Gaiman is a master of implication and understatement, leaving the reader's imagination to conjure up custom tailored horror which will be more specifically ghastly than any graphic description could ever be. Think of the moment where three of the worst serial killers on Earth tell a victim that they're going to try something new "We're going to take turns" and leave the victims fate otherwise undescribed.

To be fair, they had each just described their particular methods of murder.

Indeed, but in broad terms, and with each method being pretty much instantly deadly, one is left wondering what they could do that would leave anything left for the next one to pick up on, which it's apparent they're going to.

Or that single panel in an earlier volume with an ambulance dispatcher crying because she has no one left to send but the calls keep on coming...

Listen. You can hear them screaming.

Maybe it's a public service that inspires more people to dress up in tights and become heroes?

Or... maybe it's interactive. "Hands free porn."

One thing you have to remember is that Gaiman was writing The Sandman WAY before Morrison wrote Seven Soldiers. Editors more than likely changed between those periods.

It's a strange life to live wherein your best friend has an on-again, off-again, severely destructive relationship with your Mother, a shapeshifting sociopath who could be pretending to be anyone important in your life.

Come to think of it, how come Kurt and Rogue have never bonded over their mutual issues regarding Raven?

That is odd, since in a lot of animated series (The 90's cartoon, and especially Evolution) they do kind of show them as siblings, and even bonding.

Not so much in the comics from what I can tell.

I think I remember hearing somewhere that Claremont did more of that with the X-Men Forever comics--in fact, the two ended up semi-switching powers, or at least she ended up blue and fuzzy.

Yep, that's not the only one--Kitty gained on of Wolverine's claws after he died, and Storm was completely hallowed-out/mind-controlled into super-villainy, taking over Wakanda in the process, only for a teenaged Storm (don't remember how it happened) to replace her.

Margali can do magic right, surely she could whip up a possession spell if the writers want? I don't think Kurt would call Mystique mom...

Date: 2012-12-31 03:57 am (UTC)
From: [personal profile] darkknightjrk
That makes me wonder two things:

1. If any of the Logan/Kurt stories ever addressed that--or better yet, if the three teamed-up while Logan and Raven were on-again.
2. While he may have said "mom" here for dramatic/comedic effect, does he really consider her to be like a mother figure?

The thing I really like about that Kurt and Wolverine issue? There's an earlier moment where they're in the truck, listening to the radio.

"It's this American Life. I'm Ira Glass. Each week's there's a theme..."

And they had that panel featured on their website as a print for awhile :)
