But my dirty little secret is that my best students are almost always men. And it raises their self-esteem to incredible heights, because they're learned a new skill and discovered a way to help others. Sitting on my table right now are two full trash bags of loom-knitted hats, which I'll deliver to homeless shelters and similar places. We do a couple HUNDRED hats every year.

Date: 2013-01-17 01:15 am (UTC)I don't think there's anything unusual about guys knitting at all! It's just a hobby and creative outlet and seeing guys knit is actually quite sweet, at least for me.
(There was a funny/adorable pic circulating Tumblr of a black man on the NYC subway wearing stereotypical "thug life/ganster" clothes [idk how else to describe it] except it was all knitted from wool in bright colors and I loved it :)))
