The difference between them may be small in cases, in fact there is often overlap, but I thought that this is an interesting drawing exercise. ^^;

And then there's dungeonpunk. Which is not really a form of retropunk, but just D&D with lots and lots of leather.

Or Clockpunk mixed with Magitek.

Also, DAMN, espanolbot, that last one took a really dark turn :(

Or is that you communicating on your life stuck in a Dalek frame? :)

Honestly, considering some D&D settings (Spelljammer, Planescape, etc.) ....

Y'know what we need to invent? A form of retropunk involving 1970s and 80s technology. Or would that be early Cyberpunk?

Hmm... 70's-- Acidpunk? Disocopunk?

80's: Yuppiepunk? Reaganpunk? Punkpunk?

One has to be careful, as Real Life Comics found out a couple of years back.

No mention of the arguably most successful bit of dieselpunk? Indiana Jones?

(although Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and also Disney's Tailspin also belong there)

Is Indy really dieselpunk? What isn't basic mechanics is usually more akin to magic than anything else, isn't it?

Yeah, Indy's just classic pulp.

No, it's retro-classic pulp. It's not the real thing since well, it's not from the 30's.

It's still not diesel-punk, though, except in the broadest possible sense (which would also result in things like defining Dracula as steampunk).

No, Dracula takes place in a contemporary setting. Indiana Jones is a period piece.

But still not diesel-punk, since all of the technology that Indy uses is contemporary for the period the story is set in.

Hmm, I guess the TV Wild Wild West would be steampunk, probably before people used the term?

More or less, it do go into the highly fanciful with Doctor Loveless and the other mad scientists.

Honestly I've never heard the term Atompunk before. Certainly for the art style, I've only ever heard it called Retro Futurism, since it calls back to the first period where looking at the World of the Future (with obligatory echo) became a really huge thing in the mainstream.

But I guess these days if you see the name on TV Tropes, that makes it official.
