Surely that would have been a problem since he split his tongue lengthways?

It was already a problem back when he was recovering from reconstructive surgery in Morrison's text-only issue. He was bantering constantly and no one else had any idea what he was saying.

According to some people, in "R.I.P." none of the characters can understand the Joker except Batman (who is mentally unwell and might just be hearing what he wants to hear) and Dr. Hurt (who is either mentally unwell or has the demonic ability to understand face-shredded gibberish).

No-one else seems to directly respond to anything he says; some of the rich Black Glove club members actually seem totally ignorant of any meaning to his speech.

Now I can't help but picture Batman speaking in Christian Bale's Batman voice, talking to this Joker as others look on confused.

You can speak intelligibly without lips, right? I mean, ventriloquists manage it.

Also, I know people have bifurcated their tongues in real life, and I think they can make themselves understood too.

I thinik certain sounds would be impossible to say without lips.. b's and p's are the ones that ventriloquists are pretty much known to have issues with, hence the old "Gottle of geer" routine, and which was Scarface's original speech problem, he had to call his enemies "Gatman and Rogin"

....yeah, but the combination of bifurcated tongue, no lips and something loose flapping around in front of your mouth would probably add some layers of mumbling there. Not to mention...scar tissue would be forming wouldn't it?

Of course, dude should probably be dead from raging face infections, shock and just general 'cutting off your face complications' so Devil!Joker being able to speak is the least of the worries?

This is what I thought in the last post where we were talking about Joker being charismatic. Nobody can be charismatic when they've got a hunk of rotting skin taped to their head for a face.

Not to mention all the drooling he must be doing without lips.
