Ann Nocenti's final arc in her Daredevil run is one of the character's best stories.

Nocenti inherited the title from Miller's remarkable 'Born Again' and took the mental, physical and spiritual destruction of Matt Murdock to greater heights. He lost his license, his friends, his relationship with Karen Page, lost his belief in the Law and reneged his role as Hell's Kitchen protector in order to travel across America in search of himself. Those were pretty heavy years for Matt, but before she left the title, Nocenti put everything back. Her final storyline is basically the rebirth of a better Matt Murdock and Daredevil's return to heroism.

After literally going to hell and back, Matt Murdock wanders back to New York, but he's not alright:

After losing, he gets in a fight with a bunch of small-time thugs and he gets beaten by them. Murdock is confused, still tormented by images of Hell, and doesn't feel like fighting anymore. Of all the people in the world, it's Bullseye that saves him:

Matt is amnesiac and Bullseye pretends to be him in order to ruin his reputation in Hell's Kitchen.

As Jack, he's discovering he's blind but that he has amazing powers that replace his sight. He also meets a street artist:

They become friends and later their relationship blossoms into love.

Meanwhile Bullseye is doing a great job not stopping crimes:

Matt discovers the old man and takes him home, where he meets Marcus, a very angry young black man:

I love the irony of Matt's last words, since Matt's father, Jack Murdoch, also didn't want him to fight. Of course he doesn't remember this yet.

Matt shacks up with Nyla in a derelict building, and she tries to turn him into a thief, using his powers. But Matt hasn't forgotten his sense of morality yet:

Matt, however, arrives too late and two thugs accidentally kill the judge:

Matt follows Marcus in order to stop him from doing anything rash, but a fight starts and he rediscovers his fighting skills:

Bullseye, meanwhile, continues to be a bastard, but awesome journalist Ben Urich starts smelling something fishy:

With his fighting skills, Matt decides to make money for himself and Nyla becoming a boxer:

And like that Matt starts following his father's footsteps...

I'm in love with how flawed Matt Murdock is as a human being. And how much of his damage we as comics readers get to see.

Marvel really does have a brilliant history with this character.

Ann Nocenti doesn't get enough praise for her run on Daredevil. Absolutely fantastic!
