Well exams are over and my spring break is imminent! Time for sleep, video games and comics! :D
And speaking of comics, another bunch of fanart for people's viewing pleasure.
An interesting take on Wonder Woman and Batman's costumes. Definitely feeling a bit of a Jack Kirby/New Gods vibe off the aesthetic that I'm liking. Diana looks more like something out of mythology than her traditional costume and I'm also liking Batman's fully enclosed helmet and I think that it even has vampire fangs on it, which I think is a cool touch. Sort of reminiscent of Japanese tengu masks.
I think my one big gripe to this is that their emblems are obscured and I feel like those symbols should be a bit more visible. But that's a minor pet peeve in a design that I otherwise really like.
Please note that the link above takes you to the dA page of the person who commissioned the image. I linked it because the commissioner has written some background info to this redesign of the characters there. For the artist's copy of the image, go HERE
Of course you can't knock the classic Wonder Woman design either. This is pretty much how I'd like to see Diana in any film or television appearance. Tanned, strong and with obvious muscle to her, but still retaining her femininity. And I think this image strikes that nice balance.
I keep hearing about "A Song of Ice and Fire" whether it is people who've read the book or seen the show or both. Sadly college leaves me with little time for epic fantasy reading or television so I've not had a chance to pick up either. That said, this image really caught my eye. Anyone familiar with the series care to weigh in on this illustration of Jon Snow? Likewise are there people who would recommend either the book or the show?
Digging the slightly manga-esque style art on this piece. I could see this almost as a poster for an anime version of Power Girl with stories taken from Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner's run. Lots of humor, crazy supervillains, movie nights with Atlee and angry cats everywhere.
I really gotta make time to pick up Gaiman's Sandman books sometime. I've seen Death appear here and there in the DCU but I've never had the chance to see her first appearance. I really love her design though. Simple colors and a modern look for a character that is unbelievably ancient and powerful.
This one made me tear up. Just a little :(
Odds are this has already been posted before, but I really love these shorts and had to give props to Lauren Faust. Pity they seem to be shutting down along with the rest of the current DC Nation block. Beware the Batman and the revived Teen Titans have a lot to live up to.
Anyway, that's it from me for now

Date: 2013-03-14 08:58 pm (UTC)Morbid jokes aside I would like to give the story a try but the plot sounds awfully hard to follow. People have described it to me as Lord of the Rings-like in that the "main characters" each have their own adventure or story (i.e. Frodo & Sam, Pippin & Merry, Aragorn & Legolas & Gimli)
Does it ever get to the point that you don't know who the characters are and what they are doing cause there are so many individuals and storylines?

Date: 2013-03-14 10:03 pm (UTC)The TV series is also very much worth it, even though it departs from the books in some (in my opinion) regrettable ways (everything’s so much less colorful) (and what’s with Dothraki pronouncing Dothraki incorrectly) (and there should be more ugly people, that was part of the point dammit)—but don’t mind me grumbling, it’s really one of the best TV fantasy series.

Date: 2013-03-14 11:05 pm (UTC)I try not to describe it to my friends by other franchises but rather as "the War of the Roses with some fantasy elements."
It's a real treat, though.
But no, don't dig in if you've got school. I once blew a full four day weekend when I discovered Avatar: The Last Airbender. And these were on YouTube. *sigh* Oh for the days when take down notices weren't an automatic but lingering danger.
