Okay, I'm cheating a little here, but hope you'll forgive me.

Remember the announcement about "Batman Eternal"? And how Batman, and Scott Snyder to a certain extent, getting another book seemed like a little bit of overkill.

At the NYCC today, Scott Snyder confirmed that in issue 3 of "Batman Eternal", Stephanie Brown will be debuting in the New 52 under his pen (Most likely as Spoiler)

Now normally, because we already have a post on Batman Eternal, and only one possible scan from it, which has already been shown, I'd post this on noscans_daily, but given the popularity, and indeed importance, of Stephanie Brown to many members of the community, I thought I'd post it here, and beg the indulgence of my fellow Mods on this one-off occasion.

From coverage of NYCC 2013

Before the Q&A session officially started, Cunningham asked a fan waiting at the mic for a question, which was the frequent query, "When are Stephanie Brown or Cassandra Cain coming back?

"We know that they're characters that you guys have been really vocal about," Snyder replied. "Your guys' love of Stephanie Brown have been so inspiring to us. We're really proud to announce that she'll be coming back in [new weekly series 'Batman: Eternal'], in a big way. Dan DiDio is in the audience to yell at us for telling you that."

"No one was trying to shelve her," Snyder continued. "It was more about finding the right time to reintroduce her."

Snyder said that Tynion came up with the idea to reintroduce her, and suggested it'll be as Spoiler. Tynion said Stephanie Brown will be in issue #3.

And DC confirmed this on their Twitter

And if anyone asks, this is a Fanart Thursday post, because of this fantastic piece by Dustin Nguyen.

I haven't picked up a DC book in over a year, but this just might do it.

Insert inevitable "that's great, but where the hell is Cass?" line here.

I don't want to look like a wet blanket, but... is the current DCnU Bat-verse really the best time for her to come back? And is Snyder really the kind of guy we want to be handling her out of the gate?

In any case, I'm more hoping that this will mean Dustin Nguyen can stop tiptoeing around with her in Li'l Gotham.

Current DCnu Batverse is a pretty cool place. Has Flamebird and Batwing which have been awesome. The fuck you mandate seems to only effect main Bat family members,

Synder is the Showrunner of the Bat universe and will be for the next two years or so. He would have been dictating her comeback in some form either way.

While I like Steph (and cass two) I'd much rather get more Harper Row,

Snyder's already an established fan of the characters of Cass and Steph, its people above his paygrade trying to dictate how they should be used is what has me worried.

Yes, the Bat-Family thing has been weird since Death of the Family, but my thinking is that between the fallout of Forever Evil and this book, we'll see the Bat-Family forming back together.

Besides, this really isn't anywhere near as dark and gritty a time for the Bat-verse as, say, the mid '00s.

This. The Batbooks are relatively solid - even Detective Comics pulled off a decent arc with the Wrath recently; It's just that they're mired in an increasingly stupid and shitty universe.

But yeah. Batman himself and the associated characters and books - maybe Batgirl aside, because that just feels like such a miserable book - are arguably pretty okay compared to the run-up to Infinite Crisis with the baggage of War Games and Identity Crisis, and Batman being a major shitlord to everyone.

Don't go tempting fate, mate - remember that Black Mask is still running around in the DCnU...

It would make for a pretty awesome story where she actually goes and kicks his ass, though.

Black Mask fortunately seems to have disappeared back into obscurity, at least for a while, since Daniel has gone on to do Action Comics and now Superman/Wonder Woman.

Except Snyder hasn't said he's handling her. The article says the current writer of Talon is, from what I've seen.

Besides, I'd rather Snyder handle her than Simone or maybe anyone save Tomasi, who doesn't seem interested.

I haven't read much female-led books, but I picked up the last few issues of Steph as Batgirl, and it was fantastic! She's now my go-to Batgirl. Glad to see her back.

Also, there's an ominous lack of Nightwing in that Batman: Eternal cover.

Still not gonna get too excited; I don't trust Dankor not to have decided to do this to get buzz, but then have Steph be Artemis'd by the end of the issue.

Not to mention that I don't doubt that they'll try and GRIMDARKify her to make her "fit in" with the rest of the DCnU.

My guess it's what Dan Didio's name would be if he were a villain in He-Man & The Masters of the Universe.

Dan Didio, years ago in the mists of time, I found out that Dan looked identical to the villain in the MST3K episode Prince of Space, a guy called Krankor.

Ended up becoming a kind of meme for a bit.

What e-bot said. I used it so often that it's pretty much automatic for me to type that instead of his actual name now.

(The name "Krankor" was actually a shortening of his actual name, "the Phantom of Krankor," and in the Amazing Colossal Episode Guide, they described him as being most memorable for his "laugh like a Buick not turning over" [starting when the key was turned]. The laugh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LNS_Y90iLo )

I'd rather wait. DC is so screwed up and obsessed with screwing over characters that I wouldn't be suprised if Steph ended up like Artemis, as in the writers going "You like this character right? WELL NOW SHE'S F***ING DEAD!'.

Oh boy! Stephie is coming back!

*Thinks on the current tone of DC comics*

So, when will they have her raped, tortured, murdered, and/or grimdarked to the point she's no longer recognizable to the original character?

Naw, they'll try something new.

"Our approach with Stephanie is something we've all aspired to do for a long time but felt held back, and that is Super Heroes aren't allowed to smile or convey any kind of emotion that would suggest they have positive characteristics to their personality. My belief is that if you're going to be a super hero, you're life should be a black hole of suck. Stephanie is going to be the embodiment of that core belief that everyone here at DC believes in with a passion."

I could assume this is a trick, or they'll go back on it, or that they'll mess it up somehow, or other pessimistic thoughts and worries.

But fuck pessimism. I'm squeeing.

Excellent. That's what I was going for, and wasn't quite able to achieve on my own due to inherent pessimism/cynicism. But I think I can grab on to your squee (and wow that sounds obscene) and join the choir.
