and the there's Poison Ivy's level of Seasonal Affective Disorder

The art in this is so beautiful it makes me regret my scanner is such a poor qualty one... or it might make me wish I went in for digital comics more, but in any event, I recommend seeking out these issue for yourself, if only for the first four pages, which are amongst the loveliest I've seen in ages.

There's some Dave McKean style lettering too, which works in context...

That last one is truly remarkable.

The rest of the story is Harley trying to get Ivy back in the mood of things, because it's no fun when she's like this. She even missed their roller derby night...

Tell me that you wouldn't read a "Gotham City Sirens vs the Birds of Prey Roller Derby Special"... go on, I dare you.

I include these next three panels purely for sartorial reasons....

Ivy rocking a 1940's style suit...

And from the second story in the issue, about Halloween at Wayne Manor, we find out Damian's guilty secret

lilg10 006

Awwww... he wears shop bought Robin PJ's (and Dick's Robin at that)!!!

And Dustin Nguyen achieving the near impossible by making me almost like the new Red Robin outfit...

I always loved this one - Nguyen draws a legitimately cute Ivy, and his portrayal of the Joker is probably the nicest one in existence right now.

Also, Harley in mafia suit = win.

Uh-uh, Helena. No bo staffs in roller derby.

And yes, I would read the living fuck out of Sirens vs. Birds roller derby book.

Wow, that Ivy - Fall art IS stunning...
And to think this is all watercolors with minimal linework too!
Dustin Nguyen should win all the awards.

Also, I too like the way he draws the Red Robin outfit, it's less leather fetishist meets Gatchaman.

That Poison Ivy segment is great. "I hate Autumn." Ooh, I wish Lil Gotham gets a monthly, now that Batman TDK's ending.

Also, I miss the cowled Red Robin uniform. So much.

Me too. I thought the slimmer version of the costume Tim wore later on did just fine as a modernization of the classic costume, though I missed the flaps under the belt, the new one is barely recognizable as a Red Robin outfit.

Yeah, I dunno why but I sorta miss those flaps! It's like he's constantly wearing a little skirt or something, like what Damian said.

I guess I just kinda like it! To me it represents Tim Drake, and his role as a midpoint between Robin and Batman.

He's got all the right ingredients [smart, tactical thinker, all-encompassing smarts, not a shabby fighter], but he's got enough friends and influence from people like Nightwing and Alfred to not "fully grow some Bat-ears".

Also, it opens up a lot of Doctor Mid-Nite/Batman lookalike jokes. Though, uh, not the former, since the reboot.

It has broadly been on a fortnightly release schedule, so a Monthlt would give us less of the book

Me too. Maybe if it gets a continuation, then sometime down the road, we'll get to see L'il Zsasz!

Lil Zsasz...now I want to see how they'd adapt that. Maybe give him a red marker instead of a knife?

I think everyone has at least one character of really dubious morals who they just can't help sympathising with anyway. Poison Ivy is mine.
