CAPTAIN AMERICA #401 is a "cool down" issue after Operation: Galactic Storm. Cap is in a sulky mood after half the Avengers executed the Supreme Intelligence for using the Nega-Bomb as a genocide weapon on the Kree.
I've posted pages from this issue before, and these pages reflect the friendship between Steve Rogers and Clint Barton. It is a friendship that (it seems) won't get reflected in the Marvel Cinema Universe and seems to have been largely ignored over the decades.

After jumping on Cap's bed, Cap agrees to go with Clint to a bar.

The rest of the issue of Steve talking with Tony Stark over their background. I've posted it elsewhere.

Hawkeye being the "Mr. Moral" of the Avengers can be a crapshoot, since both the Ultimate Hawkeye and the MCU Hawkeye are assassins for SHIELD. Plus, sometimes Hawkeye will become "murdermurdermurder" if he gets angry enough, like HOUSE OF M and SECRET INVASION. So, basically, you can be moral as long as you don't get angry. Great.

Love all the random cameos; Popeye, Sam Spade, Joel Cairo, Dick Tracy, Morticia and Gomez Addams, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, Steed and Mrs Peel to name a few.

Oh, and "role model", nothing. Captain America 371 (The "Date night with Diamondback" and which is sitting in my pile to scan) makes it clear that Steve doesn't drink because his father had a drinking problem and Steve has had an aversion to it ever since.

And yet on other occasions we have seen Cap drunk, and yet on other other occasions we've seen him drinking, saying that his super-soldier physiology prevents him from getting drunk.

So I gues this is just not a very well established area of his character...

Out of curiosity, when have we seen him drinking?

In the movie, though that's a seperate continuity and stuff.

Captain America #261 starts with him out drinking with the Falcon (http://www.supermegamonkey.net/chronocomic/entries/captain_america_263.shtml)

Thanks! (as that predates this one and the Gruenwald run in it's entirety, I find it easier to accept... I'm a comic geek like that)

I hate that Hawkeye is the 'murdermurdermurder' guy now. The whole driving force behind his marriage breakup was that he doesn't kill and he couldn't abide his wife letting her creepy brainwashing stalker die. Bobbi didn't even kill him herself and Clint couldn't even live with that! He fell apart in another WCA issue when he killed an LMD. Hawkeye up until Bendis got his hands on him might as well be a completely different character to the guy we've got now.

And then the combined weight of the movies and Fraction have completely reset his character again, so...

Weirdly, the Fraction and the movie Hawkeye are almost diametrically opposed characters.

And yet I totally want to see Jeremy Renner in a movie based on the Fraction series.

Well the whole 'murdermurdermurder' period was during Bendis's reins in Avengers, he is big on ignoring the actual personality and traits of a character. Bendis ruined Hawkeye and he is doing the same with Rocket Raccoon.

I always remember the early days when Clint was resentful of Steve as leader of the Avengers (he thought he should be), and how their friendship had begun and evolved from that rocky start to the point where he was key in getting Steve to drop Nomad and become Cap again in the '70s. I always remember that particular cover of that issue with the archer 'exposing' Steve (no, not that kind of exposing!). ;)

I miss Hawkeye so much. I'd make a crack about some impostor running around in his costume in the last few years, except he doesn't even use his costume anymore...

Writers in recent years seem to have forgotten that Hawkeye's not just brash, but kind of a dick. And yeah, Fraction cutesy blah blah blah, but unless you use some weak sauce like "Dying put life into perspective for him," you're taking liberties. When I read this, I'm like "Oh, Hawkeye, you silly goose. That is just classic you. If you were a ninja turtle, you'd be..." (and everyone can instantly finish that sentence, because we know what Hawkeye should be). Like we're old friends. When I read Bendis and Fraction, I pretend it's a skrull, or maybe Doc Ock, and I force myself to be cool with that, because apparently people like him like that now, and apparently that's all that matters.

I'm not sure what Fraction Hawkeye you're reading if you think that version isn't kind of a dick.
