Got to love the insanity that is Harvey

As others have said, this story (The Eye of the Beholder) is to Two-Face as The Killing Joke is to the Joker. It was the first story to make Dent's initial scarring the last straw in a lifetime of uphill struggle to stay sane, as opposed to the original Golden Age origin where the scarring abruptly (and implausibly) turned a well-adjusted and happy D.A. into a deranged villain. And therefore it was the first story to make Dent a genuinely tragic figure. (Although the Two-Face story in the first chapter of DKR arguably also qualifies, if for a different reason: the surgery intended to bury Dent's evil side has the unforeseen result of destroying his good side.)

Thank you for posting this. I'm on tour, away from a printer, and even then I couldn't decide on which is the best moment to choose. Seeing this here (and I love the harsh, faded quality of the pages! Way more fitting than either of my copies), I realize it truly was... well... no choice at all.

Classic Helfer guck. I still have this. I recall it as the first time I really took notice of Chris Sprouse, though I'd seen a couple of decent SECRET ORIGINS stories.

And this underscores even more why Aaron Eckhart's performance as Harvey was so good. He begins the film a bit iffy and unstable, and with an obvious deathwish. And very, very insecure.

It's like you know it's coming, but you can't look away. Poor Harvey.

Argh. This gets me every time. Every time I wish the ending was different, was happier, but it never is.

You're right; it's the perfect moment. I just wish it wasn't so traumatising though.

Just wait. I'm playing with a way to do this, but have it actually be a positive ending. Or at least, as positive as Harvey could ever possibly have. If I can pull it off, hoo boy.
