Since I was a big fan of the Helena Bertinelli Huntress, I was very dismayed when DC eliminated her with the new-52 reboot.  But I recently learned that she has been a recurring character in the show Arrow on the CW.  So far she's appeared in four episodes: 1x07, 1x08, 1x17, and 2x17, all four of which I've now watched.  I have to say, I was quite pleased with her portrayal.  They actually managed to make her more ruthless than in the comics, which is a big plus in my book.  Sadly, 2x17, entitled "Birds of Prey," ended in a way that will make it difficult for the show to bring her back anytime in the near future, but it didn't preclude an eventual return, so I'm pretty happy.  Anyway, in honor of this, I decided to post a few pages from Birds of Prey: Blood and Circuits.

A brief recap: Oracle has sent a team led by Huntress to break Tabby Brennan, whose father is a major mob boss, out of prison in Mexico in exchange for her father's agreement to turn state's evidence against his cronies.  Unfortunately, the feds whom they were supposed to turn the Brennans over to turned out to be corrupt, and the hand-off went seriously sideways:

What you can see from Huntress' thought-captions is that she clearly identifies with Tabby.  They are both the daughters of mob leaders, after all.  We are about to find out that they have even more in common than just that.

What I love here is that, right from the first panel, Huntress knows that this is all wrong.  She hasn't examined the wounds or the gun yet, but she knows what really happened.  How does she know?  Because she is Tabby.  But more on that in a moment.

Just like Huntress, Tabby is a parricide.  Huntress also killed her father, and just like Tabby, she arranged it so that someone else would take the rap, and she manipulated a bunch of superheroes (including Oracle) to do it.  Unlike Tabby, though, Huntress killed Santo Cassamento because he was trying to force her into being a part of organized crime as his private assassin.  Tabby's father was trying to get out for her sake, and Tabby killed him so that she could take over his mob.  She is the dark (well, darker) version of the Huntress.

And that is how Huntress immediately knows what Tabby had done, and why Huntress doesn't just kill her right on the spot.  (One of two reasons, the other being how young Tabby is.  Huntress can't bring herself to kill a child.)  It would be like killing herself.

That's what I love about this scene, and this character.  Tabby is the perfect foil for the Huntress, and would have been the perfect recurring villain for the Huntress.  Of course, Sean McKeever brought her back for one issue just to kill her off, but I prefer not to think about that.

You know, I think you're the first big Huntress fan I've seen who was completely into how she's portrayed on Arrow. They basically have put her firmly in the super-villain role. I mean, Birds of Prey even had her with henchmen.

That said, as for how they could bring her back...the episode before BOP was the Suicide Squad, so maybe Amanda Waller pulls her in?

And by the way, you should really watch all of Arrow. I'm not kidding when I say it's the best comic book related show on television right now.

While MAX Castle seems like a death seeker, I think mainstream Marvel Castle does have one thing he still loves: killing criminals. He hates them, but he loves killing them.

MAX version was anything but a death seeker, actually. He might prefer death, but he's determined to live because that's his punishment for failing his family. Living as the Punisher.

Handily explains why he doesn't bother with a secret identity. Heroes and villains normally adopt one in a (usually vain) attempt to keep their personal lives and their missions separate. Frank's mission IS his life.

Tabby even looks the part of Helena's foil. Helena's a tall dark haired woman wearing a dark costume while Tabby's a waifish blonde in a pink dress.

I (almost) always liked Bertinelli Huntress. She was an excellent rounded character.
Also for the most part her costume was a fully covered suit, with no play in bare skin. She was in it for the fight alone.
(I tend to ignore the whole bare stomach phase, which I blame on DC stupidity)

I really need to at some point just go on a massive Birds of Prey binge; I've only had the chance to read a few of the first run of it.

Glad you liked those episodes. I didn't particularly like how Huntress was depicted, but the comment above about it fitting her to be 'too dark for others' does make me look at it differently. Like darkknightjrk said, though, you should watch the whole show. The second season is coming to a close soon, and its really been one of the best TV shows out there. Its admittedly not too good at adapting some elements and Oliver isn't as mouthy as I'd like him to be (and the handling of women sometimes leaves something to be desired), but overall its been good, at Canary once she's introduced, though heavily re-imagined, is incredibly awesome to watch.
Also, last night's episode was just made of feels.
