Lockjaw & the Pet Avengers #02 - out of the frying pan...

It was pointed out in an earlier thread (the Guardians of the Galaxy preview pages?) that the new issue of Lockjaw & the Pet Avengers hasn't gotten any love here yet. I got the ish today, and am here with 4 scans to remedy that sad, sad situation.

As you may recall from #1, Lockjaw was alerted to the menace of the Infinity Gems, found the Mind Gem, and recruited Throg the Frog of Thunder, Lockheed the Dragon, Redwing the Falcon, and Hairball and his sidekick Ms. Lion to help retrieve the remaining 5. From there they went to the Savage Land and quickly picked up the Time Gem and a new member.

They use the Time Gem to take them to find a third gem lost in the Savage Land...

Yeah. Niels' first time in the Savage Land, obviously.






Lockjaw's plan works (no thanks to Ms. Lion) and they teleport away at a scamper. BUT. um. Remember those old Wile E Coyote cliffhangers? Witness the last page:



No matter what happens, that's gonna make for some mega-unhappy felinoids, I bet.

OK, I know who Lockjaw is, I know Lockheed, Throg and Redwing, I know Zabu, I know Ms. Lion - but who's the kitty cat? Hairball? Who is this Hairball?
And once this mini is finished (it IS a miniseries, right?), Throg should definitely be introduced into mainstream, non-pet-related Marvel. He should be Thor's sidekick or something.

Hairball is Niels (http://marvel.com/universe/Niels), the lab cat who was empowered in the same Science!Accident! as Speedball.

Throg is the most awesome thing EVAR. I love how he even gets the special Thor Font.

P as in Penance? I don't particularly want to see a cat in a Penance costume, thank you - the human version was enough.

I imagine, like any bloody-minded enough cat (ie ALL of them), he let Robbie put him in the silly outfit because he wanted fed, but then ripped it to shreds the first chance he got.

Robbies powers nominally changed because he was overloaded, burned out and then shot. Niels powers would have remained unaltered, so Hairball is what he should be.

Besides, the whole P-cat thing was a joke, wasn't it? I mean, no one ever *mentioned* Niels before Slott remembered that the cat had finally adopted Robbie and was living with him in NY.

Not yet, alas. They dove right into the ACTION! once Niels and Ms.L came aboard. I really wanna see him in the costume, though. It's not right that only Throg is going around in costume!
