A bit mixed on this issue... some very nice moments, and some very off, and in particular Lace's death seemed _too_ random and pointless. Yeah, I know, 'one will die and one will return', but I'd hoped it would be a little more organic to the story rather than the comic book equivalent of getting hit by a car crossing the street, which is what it looks like at the moment.

For one thing, the missile/ plane thing quite clearly wasn't an accident; someone just tried to kill them, and they were damned lucky Lace was the only one who bit it.

What did you find was off character? I did think that some characters were off from how Moore portrayed them, but then again I didn't like how Moore portrayed them, so it didn't bother me.

I disagree. The issue was all about setting up the characters and the conflict, and I thought that it preformed both admirably.

It was certainly leagues better than Terry Moore's run.

Overall, I recommend the issue, despite the BAAWWW at the end there. I think Immonen already has a much better grasp on the kids than Moore did.

Okay, Old Lace dies, and through the connection with her, it means Chase dies too.

But since he's not actually injured he can be revived. But, technically, he's died.

Now I wonder...

Are we seeing a Buffy/Faith moment here? Chase made a deal to sacrifice himself to bring Gert back, right? His life for hers. Well, does that deal still stand? He just died...

So does his loss of life mean Gert returns?

I'll be disappointed if the "one dies, one returns" events are entirely unconnected.

Christina Strain confirmed on the_hostel lj comm that Chase is alive. (The "if one dies, the other dies too" thing was never actually put into evidence, though Gert thought it was true.)

This looks like it will have some nice play out if the explore the idea of "Old Lace as Gert's spirit living on in the group" angle or something along those lines.

More or less saw it coming though how Old Lace died was pretty stupid. I mean unless I'm wrong a plane just accidentally turned the wrong way and hits the Runaways house? Really?

Still I assume Old Lace has died and Gert'll return so my theory seems like it'll come through. If any Runaway had to die I assumed it'd be Old Lace.

The attack definitely wasn't an accident. It was one of the targets mentioned in the scene with the Big Bad.

I'd have rathered Klara die -- so not digging the "time-displaced naif" trope -- but I thought this issue had more good moments than bad. At least Karolina gets a light swat to remind her that Xavin might still be alive out there, and tuxedo!Victor and Chase dancing together was such a pretty image. ;)

Damn, I'm going to miss Old Lace. Having a pet dinosaur on the team was just right amount of Ridiculous and Awesome that propelled classic Runaways to 11 out of 10. Though this is not an unforeseen event. Writers haven't known what to do with Old Lace for several story arcs now. Lately Old Lace would only be seen laying around in the background of the Hostel, at best. At worst, Old Lace is a complete non-entity.

At the same time, I breath a sigh of relief for all of the remaining characters who didn't buy it.

On the plus side, in this issue everyone acts in-character, dialog flows well, the art is easy on the eyes, each characters is recognizable for who they are (Chase isn't K's twin anymore and Vic is no longer the prettiest girl :p). If the story-arc is tight I think this might be Runaway's return to form. Huzzahs for the new creative team!

Um, yeah, is anyone else getting kind of annoyed by Nico's apparently new religion? When Moore started the run he occasionally had her say stuff like, "Mother of Stars" and now here she's saying, "Thank Goddess". This would be fine, but the thing is that Nico had always been shown as being Christian up until this point. It would be fine if they had made a mention of her converting or looking into different things, but the fact that she just randomly started saying things like that makes it seem like the writers or whoever were just like, "Oh, she's got magic/witch powers so therefore she obviously is gonna be into religions that deal with that kind of stuff."

And just then, Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers appear and use the Infinity Gems to bring Old Lace back to life and she joins them and they have many adventures together and live happily ever after nononoimnotlisteninglalalalala.

Old Lace's death really did nothing for me, but that one panel where Chase is apologising and begging for Gert to come back just broke my heart.
