Barack the Barbarian!

Greetings True Believers! I picked up Barack the Barbarian #1 today and it is amusing. It hit me right in the Conan-fanboy part of my brain. It's an entertaining tale with familiar faces in new and strangely true roles. So enjoy!

Now the Barbarian must enter the wicked city of Warshingtun!

Many take notice of Barack's entry into the city. Among them, "Manny the Fixer" and "Hilaria and the cult of Biil."

Also taking notice is the evil Despot Boosh and his eviler Vizier Harry Burden! They decide to send Elephant Cultists to kill him.

Manny the Fixer and Barack are eating at tavern, (insert Dijon joke) and who walks through the door.....

Fight scene!

Then Manny and Barack escape through the back and travel to a temple. That this point, the narrator is revealed to be a elder of an ice village recounting a myth to children. Funny oil jokes follow.

Barack and Manny travel to the "Great Mall" to meet someone at a "temple."

And they meet....

Hilaria and Barack join forces but H's elite cadre of Amazons are pissed and go "We signed on to put a woman in the tower, not another set of gonads!" Some leave to join Red Sarah.

Boosh has a mysterious "goddess" locked in his tower. Barack, Red Sarah, Manny, Hilaria, the Old Warror and the Amazons must now battle through the "Labyrinth of Pundits!" to reach the tower.

Next time, True Believers!

....Oh my God they actually made this.

What the hell?

I was so sure those covers where a joke that I might have startled my LCS guy in my awe over seeing it on the shelf.

Hahaha!

We must laugh at this. Because the only other reactions are crying or madness.

I dunno, I kinda like it. The strumpet line especially.

Wow, I'm just speechless. Just a big wow.

[identity profile] dr_hermes.insanejournal.com 2009-06-24 22:40 (UTC)(link)
Eh, THE NATIONAL LAMPOON used to do stuff like this all the time, only with Neal Adams or Barry Smith art. It goes way back.

[identity profile] rab62.insanejournal.com 2009-06-24 23:09 (UTC)(link)
My thoughts exactly.

(Only back then, they didn't charge $3.50 apiece for four issues of it...)

[identity profile] looking2dastars.insanejournal.com 2009-06-24 22:44 (UTC)(link)
Oh, that is BRILLIANT.

Lucky I remembered to put this on my subscription at the shop. I get the feeling this one will go fast and I can't make it in until Saturday.

[identity profile] foxhack.insanejournal.com 2009-06-24 22:46 (UTC)(link)
Jesus Christ, you mean this shit's ACTUALLY REAL?

[identity profile] currer.insanejournal.com 2009-06-24 22:54 (UTC)(link)
Oh, wow. This is disgusting. I'm going to have nightmares for weeks.

Oh, and yeah, biased, much?

[identity profile] kagome654.insanejournal.com 2009-06-24 23:01 (UTC)(link)
Well, I doubt the creators ever tried to imply that it was fair and balanced.

They published a parady as a real comic, and cracky as it is all I'm wondering is why Palin is on the cover and not Barack.

[identity profile] foxhack.insanejournal.com 2009-06-24 23:06 (UTC)(link)
It could've been Hillary in the cover, you know.

Amazon-viking Hillary Clinting giving a loin-cloth clad Barack Obama a high-five.
WIN.

I am going into the LCS first thing tomorrow and I am going to pray that there are still copies of this on the shelf.

[identity profile] arbre_rieur.insanejournal.com 2009-06-24 23:57 (UTC)(link)
Larry Hama wrote this? From the scattering of GIJoe issues I've read, I'd pegged him as a dyed-in-the-wool Republican.

[identity profile] ashtoreth.insanejournal.com 2009-06-25 21:42 (UTC)(link)
I used to be a Republican..

Neo-con hatemongers and party goosesteppers aren't really fiscal conservatives and personal responsiblity people.

[identity profile] salamangkiero.insanejournal.com 2009-06-25 00:04 (UTC)(link)
Not surprised about this - political satire is very popular where I'm from - but this is...wow.

[identity profile] okkult3000.insanejournal.com 2009-06-25 00:04 (UTC)(link)
Hillary Clinton as Red Sonja. That's... that's not something I needed to see.

Are there no SACRED COWS LEFT???

You.

Do.

NOT.

Do.

THIS.

To.

CONAN.

You ever read Harry Turtledove's spoof of Conan-style stories?

It's called "The Boring Beast." If you don't like this, THAT will drive you mad.

(I don't mind poking fun at Conan, myself. Robert E. Howard's original stories are so incredibly vivid that all the parodies in the world won't detract from them.)

This sort of spoof has a long history. For some reason, most creative types aren't Republicans... ;-P

Hell, Boris Vallejo did a painting in the same general spirit after Bill Clinton got elected: http://www.imaginistix.com/details.cfm?Id=295

That said, I could have cheerfully lived my entire life without seeing depictions of Palin or Hillary (at her current age) in mail bikinis.

Meh. Barack Obama and the Pirates of Wichita (http://randomactsofshark.blogspot.com/2008/01/barack-obama-vs-pirates-of-wichita.html) was better.

[identity profile] joysweeper.insanejournal.com 2009-06-25 09:04 (UTC)(link)
I like that saga. It's so incredibly over-the-top.

It's worse than I imagined it would be, and I imagined it to be pretty bad. X\ I think I'd rather read the infamous Hulk rapes the Marvel Universe post.
