thetrialofjeangreypart100 The Guardians usually find themselves on the other side of the law, yet their teaser word is "Judgment." Are they passing judgment on the X-Men or helping the teens escape judgment?

Brian Michael Bendis: Right there, that is the reason to tell the story. Everyone has a judgment, but whose is right? Should Jean be held accountable for things that she has not done yet? Should she be stopped before it happens again? Is a crime a crime if the person who committed the crime hasn't committed it yet?

This will be a quick look at short crossover event between Guardians of the Galaxy and All-New X-Men, The Trial of Jean Grey.

Thinking about it now, if I'm going to do entries on the new Star-Lord series, it's best to look at the comic that led up to the Kitty Pyrde and Star Lord relationship. As such, I'll cover this story event rather quickly. We begin with the first issue in the trade collection of this event, Guardians of the Galaxy #11.

Next time, we turn to All-New X-Men to see what happens from their perspective.

So, I didn't read any of this, but please tell me the fact that the Shi'ar murdered Jean's entire family that one time gets brought up.

It does. Repeatedly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when Jean was brought back the first time, wasn't it established that she was never the host for the Phoenix, but instead the Great Bird of the Galaxy was only impersonating her for kicks, and put her in stasis at the bottom of the ocean?

Because unless that's been retconned out (Which I suspect far too many writers have tried to do), not only has Young Jean not committed the crimes they're after her for, she never will. Oh, and let's not forget the time the Shi'ar went and murdered all her relatives. Because the Shi'ar are idiots.

It's all just very confusing. Some writers have, at least, implied that Jean was psychically in control of the Phoenix clone. But honestly, I think it's better just accepted as a bad retcon to make her less culpable for being a villain that shouldn't have happened.

You know, the funny thing is I remember it was mentioned that the bit with Phoenix burninating that one planet on its way to Earth was tossed in at the last moment. It wasn't in the original script. Hell it wouldn't make sense for it to to do so - that's Galactus job. If there were two cosmic entities wiping out whole planets willy-nilly, literally nothing will be left.

But anyway, because of that one editorial decision, here we are, debating on how culpable fire-chicken and the lady of the fire-chicken are.

Well Emperor Gladiator, is it Jean Grey or Jean Gray, make up your damn mind!

(also, the fact that everyone keeps pointing out that since she's from the past, ethically the burden of future crimes doesn't fall on her, you just know craps gonna fall hard on the Shi'ar for this egotism)

" Why don't you fill us all in on your supreme intelligence, Supreme Intelligence. "
" Why don't you let hostile aliens know where we are again, J'son? "
" Will you ever let me live that down? "
" No. "

I'm guessing Shi'ar don't have an equivalent law to that which prevents people from being put to trial multiple times for the same offence in most places around here. Or being punished for it multiple times for that matter.

Maybe take out the width & height elements? [personal profile] shadowpsykie's browser could conceivably be interpreting those as 0 and therefore resizing the images to 0 pixels. So something like this instead:

As someone who remembers the start of X-Force, Jean was unknowingly at the bottom of a lake in suspended animation while Phoenix did her thing. The movie was pretty similar in that regard, except for the fact it was a possessed Jean like the comic suggests.

NEVER liked the Shi'ar Empire, dating all the way back to the X-Men cartoon.

I think at one point, I might have hated them less, but I honestly have no recollection of why.

In any case, glad to see the feeling is mutual among some other civilizations.
