The MySpace based freebie Dark Horse Presents has a short Buffy the Vampire Slayer story up, written by Joss Whedon and with art by the wonderful Jo Chen.

And it's full of crack. And slash.

I'm not sure this counts as particularly slashy or crowd pleasing since absolutely nothing happens on panel. It's weird that the real James Marsters is quite happy to play tonsil hockey with another bloke in Torchwood, but they felt the need to make his comic likeness fool around off screen, so to speak.

Funnier, sure. But that's the trouble with Whedon. While he's able to treat female sexuality semi-seriously, the only way he's ever dealt with male homosexuality is as a joke or for comic effect (Xander, kinda gay, ho ho, Larry the jock's a homo, lol, Andrew and Jonathan, tee hee etc) unless there's a gay character played straight (so to speak) in Firefly?

There's a very similar scene in Whedon's Runaways arc. Karolina leans in to kiss Xavin and it awkwardly cuts to other character's reaction. Which was...more than a little frustrating, since they could show Victor cheating on his girlfriend by kissing Lillie on panel, but bleh, I'm cranky today. Look, pretty Jo Chen art!

James Marsters makes out with a guy on Torchwood? *researches the series* Damn, that sounds like a good show, regardless of the sexiness that is James Marsters. And it seems to be on DVD. Must see if the public library near my college has copies for me to borrow mixed in with the Smallville and Sex in the City DVDs this fall.

You can happily skip most of season 1 -- there's only 3 episodes that are good (Ghost Machine, Out of Time and Captain Jack Harkness) plus another 3 that are reasonable (Greeks Bearing Gifts, Random Shoes & Small Worlds). The rest are pedestrian to actively bad (Cyber Woman, Countrycide, End of Days).

Season 2 is a dramatic improvement in every sense of the term.

Definitely replace Angel with Xander. David Boreanaz is pretty enough in a bland way, but incredibly wooden in his performances. Nic Brendon on the other hand... WOWSA! :)

I... always tought Jo Chen would be horrible as an interior artist, but this page is much better than her covers, IMHO. I'm very pleasantly surprised. (also, I love how those cartoony hearts and sound effects work with yellowish realistic shafing. *thumbs up* And those two discreet "what the heck" standing hairs on Buffy's head in the last panel :D)

I don't get - well, actually yeah, I do. It's Buffy so it's allll about Buffy So her bestest friend who brought her back from the dead, Willow, is just sitting in a pew - not a bridesmaid or anything.
I don't know if I'll ever get use to pirate!Xander. But I just might have to icon his smiley face in the last panel of the story.

Yes, I know, I've heard about that "We've never been intimate! Except that one time..." line (which I probably misquoted like whoa there). But that is the only time we get to hear of it. To the best of my knowledge, we never hear any further details, like why and when and such, nor is there anything onscreen except a nearly throw-away line by Spike. It's still a marvelous line that I like very much, but as far as I know that's all we ever hear of it. What episode was that in, by the way? Or was it in a season 8 comic? I've never seen the context, you see, just heard that there was such a line.
