I'm torn with this comic. I'm interested, and appreciate the art even if it isn't completely to my taste. Can't decide whether to keep buying it or wait for the trade. Probably the latter.

Dick sure is all about the circus lingo in this title so far.
And didn't know dominoes were called bones until Alfred told him.

I got the impression that Dick isn't sure Gordon knows it's him, only that it isn't Bruce, so he could be mistaken for some silly impersonator.
Also Damian's volatility could easily attract the Jim's ire, and kind of did.

Gordon knows it's Batpeople. Otherwise he wouldn't be even entertaining the idea.

Ah, there's the thing though, I never said it was Gordon who thinks that, but that Dick thinks Gordon might think that. Or even better, Dick wants Damian to think Gordon thinks that! The vibe I'm getting is Gordon definitely doesn't like Damian (who does?) but hasn't shut him down because he's trusting Dick to handle him. Whether that's meta-ironic or not I haven't decided, though I'd imagine that's the same position held by a large percentage of readers (at least the ones that aren't explicitly anti-Damian).

Who does, indeed? Until Damian makes his great sacrifice after the death of Dick, Tim or... hmm (I guess) possibly Alfred. But there will be some big turning point where we, the reader, after watching Damian struggle and be obnoxious, will be emotionally disposed (should we take the challenge) to care about Damian as a hero.

I hear you on the meta-ironic. Time will tell, as usual. Damn you, comics!

I just hope the reason we start caring about Damian is because he learns a bit of humility and starts working to earn the respect he now expects from people immediately. If it's a change in scenario without a change in character, I will take back everything I've said to defend this series.

Yes. I think that's absolutely what we'll see. It's what we're being set up for as we speak.

And then someone in the batfamily will be in peril and he'll have to make a decision and so on and so on.

And through great loss of someone like Dick, he'll grow and become the best Batperson ever.

This is the trajectory I see.

I'm not torn at all. I think this is great fun. I'll just put it this way: I'm in it for the creators. I usually am. If I were in it for the characters, I'd never have picked up Supreme.

I love the Elderish touch with the "Smash" in the cracks. And that we seem to now be rendering Quitely's pencil's literally. The texture is awesome.

Put it this way. No Morrison? Didn't buy X-Men, didn't care(in fact, always hated X-Men). With Morrison? Even bought ones with(ech)Silvestri. No Morrison? Forgot they existed.

No Morrison? Hadn't bought any Bat comics since 1990. With Morrison? Etc. And so forth.

I have nothing invested in continuity. I'm only interested in seeing how he plays with it. They're only corporate franchises that will be right back to the way they were once he's done. None of this actually matters. It's just fun. If done by talented people like these two. Otherwise, couldn't really give a crap.

Oh, it's the best. I spent most of this last month working and training at the circus and picked up a little more - nobody actually uses it SERIOUSLY any more (apart from basic equiptment/act terms and the like), though that's probably because a lot of it comes from Romani curse words (or just plain made up for convienience), and in the U.S. at least the circus community has become very diversified. Most likely you'll just get beat up for trying to use it (or, if lucky, a pie in the face..).

People hate Damian now, but all it's going to take is one woobie moment...when he loses his favorite blanket or crushes on Spoiler...and then the lovefest will begin.

Me? I liked Amadeus Cho back when he was all, "D00d, I pwn3d joor jellycarrier! W00t!" Characters who drip with the egotism of an unchecked child prodigy make me smile. That said, Damien's a joke without a punchline.

Some of us love Damian already, without any redeeming woobie moments. I have a soft spot for evil child prodigies, especially ones who take such unrestrained delight in being absolute terrors. There's nothing wrong with having an abrasive character in the Bat-family. Tim, Dick & Alfred are all great characters, but they all get along very well. You need someone narky & abrasive to create an interesting book, and Damian certainly is narky & abrasive.

(Also, I love his little hooded cape. Damians' outfit is by far my favourite of all the Robin-costumes)

With respect, I wouldn't say that at all. Having everyone all happy-happy-joy-joy is not likely to make for a lasting comic, I agree, but 'narky and abrasive' is not something I would say is a necessity. See, the thing with abrasiveness is that it ABRADES, and just speaking personally, a sandpaper-and-razor-blades personality like Damien is not my idea of a necessity for a book. Damien ticks me off; he may not tick YOU off, and that's fine, but the fact remains that Jason Todd got KILLED BY THE FANS for being waaaaaay less abrasive than this. That should say something. I mean, I see what you're getting at, but I would say that a grouch, grump, cynic, or acerbic witty type is far more necessary than an abrasive type, for the simple reason that there's only so far that you can go with a person like that.

If you think everyone hates Damian now you may need to venture outside of scans_daily and its affiliates. While he's no fandom darling he does have his supporters and enthusiasts at places like CBR.

Also, some of us have liked him from the get-go, as has been stated.

Oh, sure. I'm just thinking back to others characters who started out as little shits...Stargirl, Amadeus Cho...who are now darlings of the comic world now that they've been "matured" or such. I'm sure Damian has some fans now, but I'd wager he'll have more once his spirit is broken and he has something to angst about.

I like Damian. Particularly given his overconfidence produces not only learning opportunities, but nasty story turns.

An overconfident character prone to getting in over his head is, to me, a good story engine.

No, you're right, I don't think there is a character who is universally reviled anywhere, however the reaction to the character (and 'Batman & Robin' in general) seems to be significantly more negative at scans_daily compared to many other sites. I don't hear quite as many crowbar comments elsewhere, for example. I have no idea why that is.

That's what I especially love about him getting thrown into a wall, because even though I know comics are never completely realistic at all about fighting, I like being reminded that the best 10-year-old fighter still doesn't have the body weight or muscle mass to cause that much damage in that way.
