"I don't know, vengeance is pretty sweet."

Four scans from War of Kings #5.

So Lilandra's dead, and Gladiator flips out and goes on an avenging spree:

Of the three main X-Jammers, Rachel's had easily the least to do in this story, but that was a pretty good bit there.

Elsewhere, the Inhumans decide to Terrigen-nuke everybody, thus mutating the entire galaxy into freaks and removing what they view as the cause of all dissension: species difference.

I think the Inhumans have tried to do that before. THey're not that bright. Remove the illegitimate beef, racism and replace it with a legitimate beef.

If racism were the only thing that started wars, white people wouldn't've been killing each other for the last few thousand years.

But lots of white people didn't consider each other the same race.

Almost all races don't consider other people of their color to be their race. I think only Eskimos avoided doing this, but that's mostly due to having bigger issues to worry about. Africa's been a bed of tribal warfare for longer then their recorded history. China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, etc invaded each other constantly. Hell, Japan is one of the most oddly racist countries I know.

Regardless of color or race, people have always broken themselves down from language, to race, to creed, to country, to state, to county, to city, to neighborhood, to clan, then to family. And then to bits of family they like. It's a really dumb move by the Inhumans, because they've seen Earth fight and war over everything, even while being the same race.

And black people, and indians, and asians too.

Death Commandos may be the best team name I've ever seen.

The theme song writes itself.

"Death COMMANDooosssss...du du do.
Death COMMANDooosssss...du du do.
Fighting for the honor of,
Fighting for the FIGHT!
Death Commandos kill them all
Kill them till they DIE!
Death COMMANDooosssss...du du do..."

It's better than the "Marvel Girl" outfit, but I miss the long braid and red spiky leather.

[identity profile] sandoz_iscariot.insanejournal.com 2009-07-03 02:39 (UTC)(link)
Yeah, screw the halter top, go back to the spiky bondage outfit. (The chains on her gloves can stay, though.)

According to Wikipedia it was a arc in 2006 of The Uncanny X-Men vol. 1, #466-471, called End of Greys. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/End_of_Greys

Thanks.

Uncanny X-Men #466-468 deals with the Grey family being attacked and #469-471 shows Rachel dealing with what has happened and trying to get revenge on the aliens that killed her family.

I particularly like #466-468. It's a very sad story, with the beginning showing Rachel hanging out with Jean's parents and being introduced to everyone at a family reunion and being truly happy and then of course, BAM, everything goes straight to hell. There's also a particularly heartbreaking moment involving Rachel and Jean's mother that I would totally post if I had a working scanner.

In combination with the whole Not The Legion thing the Imp Guard has always had going, I swear that my first thought when I saw Rachel in that top was "Ayla?"
The colors are almost right, the hair's close, and she has that lightning-ish background...

That's completely ridicu- goddamnit now I can't unsee.

"Elsewhere, the Inhumans decide to Terrigen-nuke everybody, thus mutating the entire galaxy into freaks and removing what they view as the cause of all dissension: species difference."

hehhehheh... that's going to make Pietro pretty snarky next time he sees them.

[identity profile] sinisterlink.insanejournal.com 2009-07-03 05:52 (UTC)(link)
Seriously. The whole thing is stupid anyway because if I recall correctly, in one of the Inhuman miniseries, they showed that after certain Inhumans were changed by the mists, they were seen by other Inhumans as being "lower" than themselves. If there is already dissension among a species, changing everyone into that species isn't going to help.

That's an amazing icon.
