Look, in Clue Comics! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a...lighter?

Today's installment from the premiere issue of Clue (Hillman, Jan. 1943) features art by Pierce Rice. Once again, the writer is unknown. Public domain scans courtesy of ComicBookPlus.com.

Next: a group of plucky (and unusually strong) grade-school boys bring murderers to justice!

If his wheels can cut steel bars he must be hell for floors and sidewalks.

I thought they looked like Pizza cutters, he should be hired to cut the world's largest pizza.

So obviously in this particular case, it did turn out to be a sinister plot, but I can't shake the feeling that when your employee retention plan skips bonuses and Casual Fridays and proceeds straight to "set a superpowered mercenary on rival headhunters," you're well on your way to supervillain territory yourself.

Yeah, apparently "pay your employees more and be more transparent about the economic future of your company" just wasn't an option. Maybe the *real* reason Mr. Anderson didn't contact the FBI is that they'd ask him some uncomfortable questions about monopolies and illegal business practices.

I also like how Pirate Captain Racketeer Guy is so gung-ho about swording his own men to death that he practically runs into his machine gun-toting buddy's line of fire. Guy's got dedication to his craft.

I can't help but imagine Zippo making 'Woman Up!' his catch phrase... >_>

The storyline is questionable, as is the costume, but I must admit that Zippo's gimmick lends itself to action pretty well. That 8th page is actually pretty dynamic.

Roller skating heroes have a long and fairly noble history, from Golden Age Air-Wave (though he could only do it along telephone lines IIRC) to Iron Man in the 60's to Dazzler in the 80's to the Big Hero 6 movies Go-Go (I'd also mention Neal Adams less than stellar "Skate Man", but why spoil the fun)

Then there's this guy.... An interesting idea, but the plot is downright bloody disturbing, though I can imagine Margaret Thatcher reading this as a kid and being inspired "Though I may lack the gnarly superpowers, someday I too shall crush trade unions!" she may have thought to herself (Though she might not have used the word "gnarly")
