I posted this to my own journal and raised this subject in my review of the book before I found a scan of the page in question. I have a question for all of you.



Could somebody explain to me why in the name of Robin Hood's beard Dinah Lance is running around, jumping across rooftops with her costume unzipped?





That's not a low-cut costume. THAT is an unzipped costume!! You can see the zipper RIGHT THERE!!!

Can anybody explain this? Anyone?

The art here is just bad. So many things wrong with it. Her torso is horrible, it looks like she has two pairs of breasts. And the legs. And even ignoring the fact that she's landing on the BACK of her heel, her foot is drawn horribly. And the biiiig hair! Did she steal Tyra Bank's weave?
Also, I hate it when people draw a single thin line for eyebrows.

And yeah, I'm a big fan of the eyebrow that apparently intersects her left eye. Tangents, people!

Honestly though, that art is awful. Where are her internal organs hiding? Why is her right quadricep massive? Where did the rest of her left leg go? Why does her foot look like it's turned around backwards? How does it work that her calves are as big as her waist? When did she gain magic hair-volumizing powers? It's a mystery!

Well, in fairness, she suffered through a lot of Bennett and post-talent Benes on BIRDS as well (somewhere in the middle of Battle Within actually seems to be his hyperthyroidism breaking point). I'd still take this art over a lot of that.

Boyhowdy YES! PLus, Helena's questionable costuming came directly following a story in IIRC Gotham Nights (Knights?) in which she was SHOT in the midsection and the kevlar of her costume prevented her from, like, being a part of "Blackest Night"!

If they are curing Babs' paralysis, so she can be Batgirl again, then obviously they need a prominent female heroine to replace her so DC Comics has a token physically disabled hero!

All I know is, I've been a Canary fan since Dinah Drake & Dinah Lance were the same person....

These writers really have to cut the crap. She's Chairwoman of the JLA, one of the top ten fighters in the DCU & a legacy. Why aren't they exploring her like they did with Jack Knight? Why is she just T&A? And why exactly is she with Oliver Queen?

I'm almost ready to give up on the character!

I can answer the "why exactly is she with Oliver Queen?" question. It's all due to two factors.

1. Judd Winick drove all of the dedicated Green Arrow fans off of his own book. DC needed to do something to win back all the fans who could remember back to the days when Green Arrow wasn't a complete moron and a womanizer (i.e. The Kevin Smith run) and they somehow felt that marrying him off to his old girlfriend would do it.

2. Someone said "Marvel is having an extremely ill-advised and nonsensical wedding in one of their books that is getting a lot of press - we should have a nonsensical wedding too!"\

For the record, I love Ollie and Dinah as a couple. I just really wish the wedding and everything leading up to the wedding had been handled better.
