Bruce and Duke were great in this! The Bat-titles are in good hands from the looks of it, and the Calendar Man was genuinely creepy.

I just love the handwave of how Bruce is going to get all his billions back without any hassle just in time for the quasi-reboot! So "poor Bruce" was pointless. This is why I hate any storyline that tries to take away WE or Bruce's money. It's like Tony Stark (who they've done the same thing with) - Bruce and his billions are part of his character, part of his mythos, its what enables him to be Batman. ALL readers know this and we know he's going to be rich again, what's the point?

Also, am I bitter that Not!Robin Duke gets a Bat-symbol and Cass apparently still does not? Yes. Yes I am.

I know right? Maybe she and Steph'll get them as a plot point in Detective or something. Her suit just looks lacking.

The point is what happens in the meantime.

Thank you. I actually love that Marvel figured this out. Every event (even if they suck) sets up a new "Status Quo". Everyone knows it won't last, so we can all have fun in the meantime.

Pretty much this. The interesting part is how they recontextualize everything and explore the ideas. Sometimes some things stick, most don't. But you never really know what will become a permanent change and what is just a flash in the pan.

Some legacy characters actually do graduate...unless an editor decides 20 years later to....NO NO DRU WE TALKED ABOUT THIS LET IT GO AND DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT RYAN CHOI YOU CAN DO THIS COME ON NOW...make some changes or restore the status quo, we can still enjoy the really good stories from that period.

Well, the Batclan is already that in all but name and colour scheme. If they start wearing more colours, I'm all for it.

Wouldn't be surprised or opposed, Duke's suit is literally just a yellow ranger outfit with a bat symbol on it. But then again Batfans would revolt since God forbid that Batman have anything silly going on in it these days.

That's Duke Thomas. He's been a recurring character for a while. He was the lead character in We Are Robin. I did a few posts on that series around here if you're interested.

Ohhhh, THAT guy! I didn't recognize him at all because he looked like a child in those posts, but he looks like an adult man here.

...How old is he? While reading these scans here I was just thinking that he is so hot and hot and really hot and have I mentioned hot. Please tell me he is not 14 or something O_o

I assume he looked young in the Robin book because that book is really stylized. And in general with the right build and muscle mass a teen can absolutely look that much like an adult.

Also a lot of artists really don't know to draw kids who are supposed to be pre-teens/early teens consistently (see Richards, Franklin). I'm not saying that's what's going on here with Duke, but the default for most artists is "developed"/nearly adult teenagers (i.e see most teenage girl heroes).

Lucky kid gets the Kill Bill Batsuit. I think that would have looked cooler on Cassandra Cain, but oh well.

Now I'm wondering how Batman got through Kill Bill without putting his fist through the screen at the scene with Copperhead.

I would have reversed the color scheme but yeah. Black/yellow are traditionally Cass's colors and yet Duke (relatively new character) is the one who gets a Bat-emblem, just like Harper Row gets the "batty" name (Blue Bird) while Cass..gets uber-generic "Orphan". Something not right there.

Maybe Cass is too cool to be a bird. "Dammit Bruce, I'm not a little birdie. It's rodents or nothing! Hey, remember how you adopted and subsequently forgot me? Well, now I'm goinna go by 'Orphan,' just to rub your face in it."

I like what I've seen of Duke Thomas elsewhere and the new costume is cool, so I'm okay with this. For the record, his new codename is apparently Lark, going by a couple of possible futures which have been shown. Though as someone who's not super interested in Damian I can't help being a little disappointed that Duke gets shunted into a new role rather than just being Robin.

Also, kind of beating a dead horse here, but boy is the Batfamily big these days. Depending on whether Batwing still counts (he was semi-retired in the pages of Batgirl) Batman is now up to ten (10!) assorted sidekicks and hangers on.

Damien is still Robin currently even if he is off on an adventure, and they probably didn't want to write him out (didn't go well over great either of the last 2 times they wrote a Robin losing the title) and I don't think Bruce has ever canonically had multiple simultaneous Robins.

Damien, Dick and Barbara all seem to be out of Gotham. Also Jason.

If you're counting the Birds it seems to be the same with Dinah and Helena.

Harper and Batwing are both semi-retired.

Seems like it's just Duke + the 'Tec crew active and in Gotham.

The obligatory BatFam crossovers should be amusingly packed though (especially if the Street Robins and Gotham Academy manage to get consistent references).

Apparently it's gonna be Lark. Which, considering that he's gonna run up against the Joker at some point, seems like asking for trouble.
