I've been mulling over getting JSA for quite some time. JSA 'Darkness Falls' was proof that hesitation was silliness on my part. In the featured scans from the graphic novel there is subtext, Awesome Dinah, Wildcat on the phone with Selina and Jay being just wonderful!
Possible NSFW if Wildcat in a bathtub or towel counts as such for your place of employment.

Added point is this is not even close to 1/4 of the awesome to be found in this graphic novel, so very worth it!

I love this run of JSA. They're getting into their stride with the legacy heroes being mentored by the Old Guys, but the series isn't overwhelmed with too many characters for the writers to keep track of.

And the art is so very pretty here.

I'm kinda curious why the superfoam for cracked ribs and bleeding hasn't been made standard issue in every single utility belt of everyone vaguely connected to the Bat-family.

(And it's not like Mid-Nite would really have any say in the matter, as "Wow, the design was good enough Batman stole it" attests!)

Well, just the fact that you routinely see them bandaged up rather than squirting on this stuff, but good point I s'pose.

Short answer: Alfred Forbids It.

Longer answer: If the Batclan could just use a magic foam for this sort of thing, most of them (ie. BRUCE!) would learn to disregard their physical condition even more than they already do. They are confronted with a second opinion of their physical health every time Alfred gives them the post-mission once-over, and he knows how to make sure that they at least think about it. The foam would take away from that, and it could conceivably cover up the symptoms of greater damage. Therefore, Alfred decided that it would be best if the foam stayed with a fully qualified, highly gifted physician and out of the hands of an exceedingly stubborn individual who knows better than to excessively jeopardize his health but does so anyway.

Now see, there's an answer that reaches down to my deep inner nerd and touches it in inappropriate but exciting ways. Well done!

Forget the batfamily. Why hasn't Pieter taken out a patent and got it supplied to every EMT, paramedic, military field medic, sport doctor, etc. It'd help keep his clinics funded, as well as making all of the above's jobs easier.

Ssssssshhhh, you're not supposed to ask questions like that. It makes superheroes look like total dicks.

same reason why, apparently, will magnus can build a device that can fully simulate the functions of the inner ear (how hartley rathaway got not deaf) and yet not be selling that shit.

(I mean, if it's expensive to build, you'd think he'dve atleast filed a patent or something.)

That stuff really bugs me...while I don't mind Reed Richards is Useless (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ReedRichardsIsUseless) on a grand scale, little things like this won't shift the world excessively away from the real world...

DC's been better about this lately - we've been seeing signs of use of smaller bits of supertech showing up, in medicine and communications, at least, though these two particular (small) examples haven't, that I've seen. Marvel may have, as well, but I don't read much Marvel.

Cochlear implants actually exist in the real world - they're just expensive. They cost USD 45000 to 105000, generally, including the surgery. I assume Will Magnus' more sophisticated device is even more expensive. The Pied Piper's parents were wealthy, but most people couldn't afford something like that.

Also Hartley's implants attach directly into his brain, highly risky (and they did this to a child...) They're more like Jaimie Sommers' bionics than like an IRL cochlear implant, really. It was stated that Hartley's parents spent millions on giving him hearing, so yeah, not likely to be a mass market item. Additionally, they were probably an experiment, and given how Hartley apparently went O/C and mental (to onlookers), the good doctor may have decided that going from full deaf to super-hearing was more than the human brain could handle.

All I can think, after that last page, is that Jay bears a very strong resemblance to my Grandpa Chuck (and I'm pretty sure if my grandfather had superpowers, that is exactly the kind of costume he would design). It makes me inclined to think well of him :D

Wow, Metron's..... packin' o.O

...wouldn't mind catching him with his literal pants down.

I like how Dinah mentions visions of Ollie and Alan immediately concludes "nightmares."

Mortals with the sheer brass balls to defy a New God get him hot.

Too bad it was stolen, or else he'd offer Jay a free "Mobius Chair Ride."

Her uncles know what's good for her. (I still can't get over the subtext of Ted wanting "to meet this hunk of genius" of Dinah's that is Oracle.)

I really love the current Dr MidNite, but I'm happy he stays in the background. I didn't enjoy his solo series like I expected to.

this artist was very well aware of exactly how much to show

Agreed, agreed. It's the reason why I was absolutely ded from squeeing when I bought the book XD
