Wait, what?

Who are they rescuing? Do we know her or the villain?

Alternatively: How different in tone from the diner scene.

Um. "Faster than a speeding bullet" is definitely faster than a mundane with a knife. Which is not even relevant, when you get right down to it, because both are far slower than the speed of light, which is how fast heat vision goes.

Dude, yeah. She totally could have heat-visioned the knife, or his hand, even if she wasn't *quite* fast enough to grab it by hand (which I'm quite convinced she is, BTW), I totally agree. I mean, it makes for a dramatic scene, but it doesn't really make sense given her skill set.

Given this kind of is supposed to be back when Kara was all new to Earth I think she's mostly terrified at what she's seeing since it was the most gruesome thing in Arkham in the issue.

Zsasz is the sort of person who would probably NOT drop the red hot knife, but shove the melting metal it into his victims face...

Ewww....

Seems like the happy adventure is going to start just as the issue ends.

I wanted fun Scooby-Doo hijinks :(

Also, couldn't Kara speedblitz him? She flies to the moon and back.

she's fully capable, yes, but she was so squicked out over what she saw to process anything else. something to that effect gets mentioned later on.

Hell, she could've heat-visioned him from where he was standing.

Zsasz and the Joker are the only two Batman villains for whom the "no killing villains" rule makes absolutely no sense. (Zsasz, for those of you who aren't familiar with him...the whole reason he's in Arkham is that he's a serial killer with a compulsion to carve a new scar onto himself each time he kills someone. Note that he's keeping count in Roman numerals, up to groups of five, after which he starts a new group somewhere else on his body.)

Huh? Why? Isn't the point of the rule is that even the worst of the worst (ie Joker and Zsasz) don't deserve to be killed?
From: [identity profile] cowtasticism.insanejournal.com
I feel that killing the Joker or Zsasz to protect this innocent would be no different than Poison Ivy killing to protect her plants.
From: [identity profile] kitty_tc_69.insanejournal.com
I don't care what excuses are given, the Joker gets out and kills again, time after time after time. It's his pattern. No matter if he might be redeemable, no matter if he's not legally responsible for his actions, not killing him directly results in more innocent deaths. The only responsible thing to do is put him down like the rabid dog he is. And failing to do so while knowing what the result of inaction is renders one partially culpable for those deaths unprevented.

In failing to end the Joker's murder spree once and for all, he's responsible for the deaths he willfully chose not to prevent. There's no moral justification for that.
From: [identity profile] blunderbuss.insanejournal.com
It might have made sense if this was the first time the Joker/Zsasz had committed such a heinous crime and this was an ultimate test of Supergirl's/Robin's moral character. But thanks to Joker Immunity stretching beyond belief it's just another day of Joker Does Something Horrible But Heroes Won't Kill Him So He Can Escape Again Another Issue.

That's the inherit problem with dragging out a villain for so long - the entire situation becomes so ludicrous that instead of the villain seeming noble for not giving in to their rage, they just look incompetent and hypocritical. It's not just Joker or Zsasz - it's any nasty villain with implausible immortality, period.

OHHHHHH I so very very very much love the way Rafael A. draws Supergirl. Wish that'd happen more often.

Bleed, you sick--!

Beating someone to death in a moment of rage? Okay. Saying a bad word? NOT. ON.

Kooky discipline Robin has there.

Must've learned 'em from the MPAA.

Beating someone's face into goo with your bare fists? ACCEPTABLE!

Show a titty? REJECTED.

Where's the fun in this? This is just depressing. The tone is very negative. I hate how Michael Green and Mike Johnson try to make Supergirl and Robin grim and gritty. They are two characters who were created to be upbeat and positive, they ain't Batman. Robin's suppose to be smiling, laughing and wisecracking as he beats up villains. Batman is the grim one, not Robin. Frank Miller himself and Jim Lee understand that.
