The 2013 comic:

The 2016 version:

"It was definitely a response to how weird and bad 2016 has made me feel and most definitely a lot of others. There’s a breaking point in our society that seems to be tested on a near-constant basis. The presidential election isn’t helping. So I wrote it, thinking it would get angrier, but mostly was just exasperation at how insane things feel and a total overwhelming sense of dread that it ends with."

Funny. I would've said that it was MORE hopeful than the original. If only because sitting around in ashes and reprimanding yourself for not taking action sooner is generally preferable to burning to death.

There's another topical twist to this meme.

When the RNC tweeted the "This is fine" panel as regards the DNC last week. In reply Green tweeted that;

i still feel like i dont need to get paid when businesses or the like use memes of my art on social media. thats just how it goes now.

— kc grəən (@kcgreenn) July 26, 2016

but I still feel I have the right to show my distaste for when its used by unsavory people in my eyes.

so, thus, in conclusion, the gop account can eat me.

The Nib also posted some art they'd actually paid Green to make

and an interview he did with the New York Times

If I could draw, I would change the second panel to show all the "fire" is really just yellow cardboard cut into shapes.

"This is fine. All the cardboard I painted yellow and orange and cut to look like cartoon fire is finished. It can be use for buildings where they want to do an "exit blocked by fire" fire drill. Maybe for fire in plays. I will now drink my coffee."

... What? It makes more sense than an anthropomorphic dog who doesn't seem to care he's in a burning room.

It's kinda like me not feeling emotionally invested in Sausage Party. "But... hot dog and buns *aren't* alive. They're processed items. So is cheese. This movie makes no goddamn sense."

I'm pretty sure cow or pig meat can't survive what they do to make it into frankfurters either. If the movie were realistic, live culture yogurt should be the only thing from a grocery store that's still alive.

Yeah, saw this last night on Tumblr...

And now to the BEST part when things are not fine... finding out who to blame it all.
