yup, Transformers got a Mirrorverse, courtesy of Transformers Timelines #3 and Botcon 2008.

and it's a fun, if not verbose, place.

For example, it's got one hell of an evil Optimus Prime:

for best results, imagine the Prime-voice from the DRSMOOV vids. It works well here.

also, Cliffjumper's about to learn that you don't apply normal-dimension morality in mirrorversi. (you see, he's fallen in through a portal.)

and lesson learnt. also, love the synchronized laugh.

and now Cliffjumper's firmly learnt that, yup, he's in upside-down land. but if there's an evil Optimus Prime, then surely there must be...

yup, a good Megatron. Sideswipe is on his side, surprisingly, though his motivation runs to the line of " Prime tried to have me assassinated because he thought I was disloyal? Right, that's it, I'm gonna shoot him in the face. "

Sideswipe drops mirror backstory on Cliffjumper:

huh. a crack on Best First. well played.

oddly Earth-like truck forms they got on Cybertron, huh?

(though as they're mentioned in other Shattered Glass material to have picked up transmissions from Earth, that's probably not so much of a thing of note.)

speaking of other worlds, the Decepticons have an opportunity for a decisive blow: Prime's about to launch an Ark, to go out and plunder other worlds, and if they can halt that launch, they can really stick it to him.

Cliffjumper decides to come along, because pretty much these guys are closer to the Autobots he knows than this universe's warped reflections. In the process of planning the attack, though, he discovers another difference in universes...

... and helps to inspire their plan of attack!

also, a cordial Megatron/Starscream relationship? Truly, this is the mirrorverse.

so, anyhow, the 'cons go to attack, the 'bots return fire, Cliffjumper is still confused, Megatron takes a shot from Prime for him, and Cliffjumper uses his glass gas to make the launching platform structurally crap.

and evil!Prime is given to a yell:

bonus: a somewhat surprising person plays the role of power broker in the pages of Fury of Firestorm.

nice laugh he's got going there, i must say.

For another take on a "good" Megatron, I can recommend the Botcon 2008 script reading (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4rUveSq7vg)

"'Deus ex Machina' is not a verb!"

Wasn't it planned for the Monitor to be evil at this point? That laugh seems more like a Joker kind of thing....

I never felt the Monitor's shift in role from "Supervillain Temp Agency", which was inspired and rather wonderful as a concept, to "Embodiment of the Multiverse... sort of" remotely worked.

If I remember correctly, the Monitor was always planned to be a good guy in Crisis on Infinite Earths, but the intent was to fake out the reader since he'd spent the previous year supplying weaponry to the bad guys, his true purpose being to "test" the heroes and figure out who was suitable for saving the multiverse blah blah blah.

However, it seems that aside from the "use this guy in your stories" direction, the idea that the Monitor was supposed to be doing this for a "good" reason didn't filter down, so some writers played him as a straight villain instead of just enigmatic and ambiguous.

The best thing in that whole comic is that Starscream panel. There's a _lot_ of fun, there. For example, watch the color patterns. Cyclonus, for example, is, I believe, in Rodimus's color scheme.

From: [identity profile] kamino_neko.insanejournal.com
Funny...it actually WORKS for Rodimus...just looks LOUD on Cyclonus...

Of course, if this is a universe without Primus and Unicron, how did Cyclonus come to be in the first place?

From: [identity profile] icon_uk.insanejournal.com
Just because they aren't aware of the great and benevolent Unicron, doesn't mean he's not out there, or that Cyclonus doesn't know the truth

I need more TF icons...

You make a good point.

That actually adds an interesting dimension to his smirk after 'Jumper tells them about Primus....

I believe the TFCC comics are based off the Marvel TFU, where Cyclonus is his own bot. Only Galvatron seems to be a Unicron creation, and he was from another dimension. (At least in the US books.)

Maybe it's part of the UK side of things, but the Marvel TFU (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Cyclonus_(G1)#Marvel_Comics_continuity) has Cyclonus being a Unicron creation from 2006 who time travelled back to the present.

And he also shows up in the modern age as one of the Targetmasters. Unicron pops Galvatron out of a dimension where Cybertron was destroyed and the Decepticons rule Earth in a later Furman story, and that universe's Cyclonus I believe follows the movie origin.

As a rabid Transformers fan (I have a box under my house with all my original Transformers still), I was so hyped on the Shattered Glass universe - it's pretty fun!

What I found most amusing though was the color schemes, like you mentioned. The now evil Autobots are distinctly darker while the Decepticons are brighter, almost happy colors.

Look at the icons too. The Autobot symbol is now purple, and the Decepticon one is Red. In the normal universe, it's reversed. Apparently Purple = Evil!

More than that. The bright happy colors are _specific_ schemes. I've mentioned Cyclonus with Hot Rod's scheme. Megatron has his G1 Comic black head.

But Starscream? He's got Jetfire's markings. See how many you can match.

I'm amused by Sideswipe being pretty much Armada Wheeljack....

From: [identity profile] danielolsen.insanejournal.com
It IS Armada Wheeljack. Likewise Megatron is Energon Megatron and Starscream is his Cybertron form.

This is because its a fanclub comic and using allready existing toys as basis for the character means being able to sell exclusive repaints of them.

Transformers always comes down to selling toys. Always.

Most cartoons from the mid 1980's onwards ARE, it's just Transformers has lasted longer than the rest.

I believe it's meant in personality as well as design daniel. After all, autobot switching over to the decepticon side after believing he was left for dead? :)

Actually, the Shattered Glass universe has been explored in other comics (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Shattered_Glass_(comics)) and prose stories (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Shattered_Glass_(stories)). You have to be a member of the Club to legally access the stories, though.

One of the things I hate about Insanejournal is that there's no convenient way to reduce image sizes. I always forget when I'm uploading them to Imageshack.

I don't have more than a very vague interest in the Transformers, but I rather like Shattered Glass. And mirrorverses, really. The concept of heroic Decepticons tickles my fancy.

What is the main theory on the horror that Optimus Prime discovered?
Something like they were created by Unicron to be his food?

That light years away, a world existed where he and the other Autobots and Decepticons were nothing more than toys, with a rather generic cartoon promoting them.
