"It’s one of those universal things that regardless of what faith you have, or if you have no faith at all, or whatever country you live in, at some point, kind of in the back of your mind you’re like, where do we go? It just seemed kind of fun to come up with the answer."

Oh man, that death sequence was a bit rough to read. I think I developed a bit of thanatophobia somewhere along the way, I'd have random panic attacks thinking about this topic sometimes.

Millar sure keeps swinging, doesn't he?

Well. That's a different sort of afterlife. I suppose that of all the afterlife scenarios I know of, that historical cultures have believed in, it most resembles Valhalla, in that you don't just get to loll about feasting or boinking or basking in the divine presence, but are expected to be an active warrior. (Not an exact analogy, though, because Valhalla is more of a training camp in preparation for Ragnarok.)

I like the version presented in "Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy": it is a training camp, but everyone there is extremely friendly to one another and there is a lot of fun when it is time to fight

It seems to be Astrid Lindgrens "Brothers Lionheart", with her as the younger brother and her father as the elder.

That's exactly what I thought.

So its Nangijala, and she is Karl Løvehjerte? And her dad is Jonatan, I guess.

Yeah, so far this reads very much like "Brothers Lionheart" smashed up with Grant Morrison's "Joe the Barbarian."

Medical nitpick... If she's having a stroke, they why did they open up her abdomen?

And the cynical side of me can't help but think that the big reveal at the end of this series will be that all her adventures all took place in her mind during the scant moments between her fatal stroke and her eventual demise.

In my personal note? I doubt it.
Mark Millar is not that kind of writer to me. When he writers fantasy or Sci-fi, he doesn't back away at the last minute.
If anything, plenty of his work is about the exact opposite, in fact.

I think if there's gonna be a reversal, it'll be something about the people there. She asks her dad "Is this real?" and he just says "We've waited such a long time"

I think I might be in love with Greg Capullo

Nice to see Valhalla is whites-only.

Everyone else is already in the "Dark Lands," obviously. In two issues we'll learn that her dad is running the only white nationalist compound in the afterlife.

Daddy's mustache (and mullet) is a dead giveaway.

Not to mention, Bonnie is both an aryan princess and wearing a blindingly white outfit with a cross motif.
