And one I can thoroughly engage with.

From WaitingfortheTrade on tumblr.

Whether it be the latest Xtinction event (See what I did there... clever isn' it?)

I personally LOVE the news summary of the latest threat "Owls just decided, 'fuck mutants'"

Or a general approach to the tactical team composition

I've never understood that about Pokemon either, to be honest. Specialise sure, but not at the cost of overall flexibility.

Never noticed it said owls before.
Poor Kurt.
(Still makes more sense than the Inhuman peanut-butter death cloud.)

And it is pretty accurate.

Flipside, if gym jobs, well-paying and respected positions, go to people who're best with single types with total tactical ability not playing into hiring....

(And heck, most rando trainers don't even have full teams of 6)

My personal headcanon is that Gym leaders are required to use only a specific pokemon type because they are meant to test trainers skills in overcoming that particular Pokemon type. They can have their Pokemon learn moves or have subtypes that cover their weaknesses, but they have to keep to a team theme.

Blue (Gary) in Pokemon Gold/Silver is the only trainer that doesn't follow that theme because A) He's Gary mother fucking Oak and he's not gonna play by your rules, and B) I get the impression that Gary's appointment to a gym leader position was an attempt by the Kanto Pokemon league to try and divert attention from the fact that their previous Viridian city gym leader was a crime boss who had been terrifying the region for a while at that point completely under the Pokemon Leagues nose, so at that point they needed Gary way more than Gary needed them.

Either overcoming that type or learning how to do it themselves, yea.

Heh, indeed.

I get the idea that varied types are either aiming for champion, or for different jobs other than something pokemon league related. It may be that some gym leaders start varied, then when they hit their wall, specialize and improve with just one type.

My personal head-canon is that training Pokémon is actually sort of difficult. Almost all the trainers you meet just have 1-3 Pokémon of the same type, who usually aren't terribly strong. An extraordinary trainer may have 4-5, also of the same type. It takes a lot of time to train one Pokémon, much less more than one, and training different types requires different methods, which themselves require years to learn.

That's what makes your player character (and your rival) so extraordinary. You have an innate connection to Pokémon that allows you to build a bond not just with multiple Pokémon, but with multiple different types. Very few trainers have that skill.

Yea, you're the elite of trainers. Elite at 12, but still. Hm... also, most people don't get a 'starter,' but these characters do, and the starters are some pretty impressive pokemon.

Even in the anime, who has greater variety, still tends to have people fit certain patterns. Heck, look at Team Rocket- maybe 2 each, not counting Meowth, and they don't *suck* as trainers.

On the one hand, "X-Men vs. Owls" is a way better idea than "X-Men vs. Inhumans".

On the other, there's nothing to say they wouldn't actually publish that.

The X-Men vs. The Owl would be cool. Especially since Apocalypse's first apperance in X-FACTOR was originally going to be the Owl.

The Owl has genetically altered himself over the years. He had HUGE eyes for a little bit, and liked eating live mice with $600 bottles of wine.

Even though it's just a gag, the bit about owls reminded me of the recently documented encounters between orcas and humpback whales, wherein humpbacks have been witnessed defending other species from orca attacks. No one is really sure why the humpbacks are taking the time to defend sunfish, or seals, or other whales.

Maybe the humpbacks just decided "Orcas? Fuck 'em!"

Orcas sometimes hunt humpback whale calves, so it could very well be that. "These bastards ate Peggy's baby—starve, motherfuckers!"

So far as I know they're the only things that drive orcas off a hunt, and they've done it worldwide in over 100 recorded instances.

Emma's description forgets "new character created by the writer who will probably be written out quickly by the next one."

See Monica Rambeau for one of the Ur examples.

I meant in the sense that she was at the time of her creation. She was Stern's baby and pretty quickly forgotten about when he left.

Forgot the point that Floating Hands made...

Wolverine should be on all active teams simultaneously https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3aqPlXHqZY (less so now since he's dead, but still).
